Who blew it on Thanksgiving?

I’m proud of myself. I had cauliflower Mac n cheese, some greens, turkey one spoonful of sweet potato and I made my own keto mousse

Didn’t blow it but ate more carbs than usual. Had turkey, cauli-mash, brussels sprouts, green beans, fresh cranbery sauce made with Allulose, cornbread dressing from almond flour and corn extract flavoring and a fresh broccolli salad with bacon, cheese, sunflower seeds and full fat dressing. The “more carbs” were my twice-a-year yeast rolls and apple pie. I had one roll and only a few bites of pie while still warm.

My company (the husband) claimed the 11 hour drive to get to our house was worth it for the pie alone!

After 6 years, me neither. I was in ketosis (0.2 mmol/L blood) by yesterday morning (did not take over the weekend). And for me, that’s not a bad level and is actually pretty normal. For instance, my morning ketones were 0.1, 0.5, and 0.3 the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I had homemade bread, stuffing (with homemade bread), ice cream, mashed potatoes, chocolate chips, real pizza, etc.

My body went through convulsions, though. I forget how bad I feel when I eat that stuff, until I eat it.

I made a very delicious and very keto friendly Thanksgiving and my future DIL and son were so appreciative and impressed, actually. – including 2 keto friendly desserts. However, one of my son’s very favorite things in the world are my homemade crescent rolls and I admit by day 3 I got into them, but overall - not too bad!

Not ON thanksgiving, but the 3 days following completely blew it lol. Well, not completely, I just ate off “my” plan every day. But I’m back on carnivore as of yesterday.

IKEA almond cake!!!
Couldn’t resist and it was also my friends wedding. But after 1,5 Keto I can easily go back to my old fatty food and not crave sweets.
For sure will need more time to go back to ketosis, trying to work out in the morning and do some mild fasting.

I had a very rapid weight gain.

I had just finished a prolonged fast before Thanksgiving so there was a bump up from that.

On Thanksgiving Day we attended 2 Thanksgiving dinners (my wife is very social!). Lots of wine.

Then 2 days later I was at a dinner party where pasta was served. This pasta was prepared by a chef who teaches cooking classes and writes a monthly food column. He loves all things Italian. It was fantastic pasta. However…

From November 27 - December 1 I gained 6.4kg.

Mostly water weight. My pants still fit. No crazy cravings but hunger more noticeable than usual.

It was humbling, demoralizing and a little scary. The water weight is disappearing just as quickly with fasting.

I learned what not to do.

It’s not Thanksgiving here in Australia but I did have to deal with 2 double birthday parties over the weekend and it didn’t go well. Succumbed to pizza, (multiple) birthday cakes, candy, chocolate. I didn’t gorge myself but what I did eat made me feel like crap afterwards. Gained 2 kgs.

I foresee a lot of intermittent fasting this coming week to try and get back on track.
