Which medicines destroy ketosis

(Tata) #1

Hello

I have begun keto 11 weeks before and lost 7 kg

I would like to know which medicines destroy ketosis

Congratulations on your success!

Look out for anything that is sweetened or has a starchy base, like potentially something in a gummy. While most capsules have a tiny bit of carbohydrate in them, it shouldn’t be significant unless you are taking handfuls of pills a day. I don’t know if there are any prescription medications that specifically alter ketosis, hopefully someone else will chime in here.

This is an interesting question. My spousal critter is given dexamethasone sporadically as part of her medical treatment. Dex is said to raise blood sugar, so we assume that it would interfere with ketosis. In principle we could test that using my Keto Mojo, but she doesn’t like doing those extra fingersticks for the blood sample, so we don’t actually have those data.

Actually I got tested with mojo today and the result was 0.3 is that satisfied result ?

Thank you so much

That is a really good question, and one that I’ve wondered myself. Over the last several years, I went from one set of drugs I was on for many years, dropped 2 and added 1 (which is actually 2), then dropped the new one and went to 1 more (that really is 1 more). Not sure what happens to ketones, hunger, fat response, etc.

0.3 mmol/l is what I normally get as a morning value How long have you been keto? (People typically get higher values when they start, though not sure this has ever been tested that well.)

I also get 0.3 mM pretty often in the morning, when I bother to test, which is infrequently. I’m happier when I get 0.5 mM, but I don’t have a good basis for believing that’s actually better in some way. I’ve been doing low-carb for about 7 years, and it was at least a couple of years until I got my Keto Mojo. Seems like I used to get a bit higher numbers at first, but I don’t keep records well.

Last week I had a few days of vacation that began with a six hour sea kayak pull out to an island where we stay, while my spousal critter took the car on the ferry. I was kicking myself for leaving the KM at home because it would have been fun to do a blood test right as I finished paddling. Probably would have been around 2 mM at that point, based on a couple of previous data points. Good times.
