Where y’all all from?

I lived in backwoods West Virginia for 3 years. The people were fine. They did have a tradition of making do with very little, but that just made them smarter in my opinion.

Hey Sophie -
I’m within cheering zone for Wrigley Field. Go Cubs!

My baby brother was the Minister of Music for Lakeside Lutheran Church for a number of years…it’s just right across the street. You can park in their parking lot for a small fee, of course.

I am from Canada, and the only thing I know about West Virginia is John Denver’s Take Me Home Country Roads, and it sounds heavenly

I’ve worked for a company in West Virginia for the past 18 years. Of course - many good people, pretty scenery, etc. Lots of obesity and drug addiction too. If ever there was a place in need of keto…

Australia, now living in Hong Kong. Oh how I miss fresh, great produce!

On some of the low-carb videos on YouTube there’s a doctor in West Virginia that’s converted a small hospital this kitchen to low carb keto. I think there’s some progress being made at least a no single community there.

And the medical treatment industry has a secure cash flow.

I moved a lot as a kid, more than as an adult in the USAF I’m sure.

Several places in California (mostly in San Francisco, in the Sunset District). Several places in Indiana. A little while in San Antonio, Texas. Short time in Denver, Colorado. Stationed at RAF Lakenheath, England for 4 1/2 years. Phoenix, AZ for a long time. Clearwater, Florida for a while. Several places around the Sandhills of North Carolina. Currently a short drive from Ft Bragg, NC. Close enough to hear and feel ordinances go off in the middle of the night. But far enough away to ignore it :cowboy_hat_face:. We had a saying in the Air Force, “Jet noise, the sound of freedom”. Pretty much how I feel about being woke at 2 am by tank practice :sunglasses:.

Also been to Turkey, Spain, Scotland, and Saudi Arabia for short stints of a month a two each. As well as a solid year in Korea. Two of my absolute favorite places to live are Korea and Scotland. If I could just up and move, I would have a hard time picking which one to make permanent residence.

My visit to Scotland was very short, about a week. The planets were in alignment or something because it rained our entire 12 hour trip up there and our first day of work as well. The entire rest of the time (while we waited on a new engine for the F-111F we went to fix) it was sunny and 74 degrees Fahrenheit. So what do a pick up truck full of Yanks do with no work to do and three days off? Take the truck to the closest lake of course! Or Lock in this case. We drove the frontage road around Lock Ness. To say it was beautiful country would do it a disservice. My turn to drive was on the eastern side heading north. Lots of wooded area kept us from seeing much at that point. Then coming over a hill there was a clearing. As we created the hill, everyone gasped. At first I thought everyone was surprised by me slamming on the breaks. The view took my breath away. I realized that I SLAMMED to a stop, and looked around at my coworkers. All jaws were dropped. I think we sat there for about ten minutes soaking it all in. It was a little after Noon, the sun was lighting the view remarkably. There were just a few low lying clouds to accent it. Dropping shadows below them that just, there’s really no words for it. :astonished:

Eric, word is getting out, at least to some extent. Current trends have 1/3 of Americans being Type 2 diabetic by 2050, says the CDC. I have no doubt that West Virginia is somewhat ahead of the pack, here, and thus there’s a portion of people who do some investigating on their own, even if their doctors aren’t talking about going low-carb.

That’s what it took for me - my doctor finally saying, officially ‘diabetic.’ I had never even heard the term "pre-diabetic.’ Only that I was somewhat impaired as far as glucose tolerance.

“Wow, I’m actually a real diabetic…” Scared me right into a 4.5 day fast, and during that time the internet provided Dr. Fung and this forum. Thank goodness…
