Where has my awesome keto mood gone?

#1

When I started keto I felt unstoppable, I though yea this is the one…I do still feel that way but over the last week my energy levels have taken a dip and I’m not sure why…

I was on and off the diet for the first couple of weeks as I started it a week before Christmas but since the beginning of the year I have stuck to it and tested myself to be in keto continuously since then… The first 3 weeks I was a machine, but this last week I have not had what I did previously. Still going gym, still doing what I need to do but I feel a bit of mindset and energy is lacking.

Has anyone else experienced the same?

Are you consuming enough fats and proteins? Getting enough water and electrolytes? Maybe you hunger is subsiding and you’re slacking a little on food intake? You look pretty fit in your profile photo, like maybe you don’t need weight loss. Maintenance of fats intake levels might help keep your energy up, especially if you have little fat stored on your body.

Cheers for the compliment mate haha. But no I have got a bit of belly fat that I’ve been trying to shift, rather more quickly since I realised how well the diet worked! So maybe it’s that I’m eating too little, I’ll increase it over this week and see how it goes. Thank you bud.

I don’t know where you’re writing from but these short, gray days are making things tough for lots of folks. I was reduced to visiting the tanning bed at the gym twice since Christmas and feel so much better since.

@PetaMarie

I’ve found that removing myself and getting over from the debacle of Christmas excess took several weeks… literally just starting to feel better now, the nights are getting a bit lighter here now too, makes a difference. It will be spring soon and the climate will be improving!

Doing Keto while training is different. I suggest checking the Keto subforum on bodybuilding.com. Metabolics are different when training. It’s been around for nearly two decades and is full of people who have experiences just like yours.

As with all things - you will adapt (staying with too elevated a mood all of the time seems unsustainable).

But, near the beginning, just as you might experience the “awesome keto mood” for a while, as you adapt, it might also go away for a while (especially along with a stall or an unavoidable social situation leading to a lapse or something).

But, as it settles out, I think what you will find is that you will end up at a new normal mood that is better than it was before this WOE.

By the way - whenever I want that feeling back - I just fast (EF) and there it is!

Yep, I’ve discussed this with at least 3-4 people here in the forum and the consensus seems to be that the keto honeymoon is over and that we are getting used to the new normal and it doesn’t quite stand out as impressively as it once did.

I believe what @atomicspacebunny said about this has some truth:

We tend to have a little more adrenaline going on during the transition phase and that does fade when things return to normal again but with different fuel!

I’ll have to check the training forums, I’m not doing much lifting at the mo…just pure cardio as I’ve got tendonitis problems in the shoulders that I have to get over before I lift again :unamused:

I’m sure this keto malarkey is a big old learning curve that I’ll have to tweak occasionally!
