When is a stall not a stall?

Hi All,

Can anyone advise if an egg fast or similar might help me out. I have been bouncing up and down the same 1lb for about 6 weeks, have done the usual IF, changed eating times, tried without dairy etc but nothing has made the ‘down bounce’ stick!
I suspect that there are other changes going on as I have less arthritic pain in general so shall I just keep switching it around and hang on?
While I am never intending to fall off the keto wagon, have done in the past, this would be a milestone scale victory…ah, have I just answered myself? Getting too hung up on the numbers?

Any thought, advice, input very gratefully received. Many thanks :grinning::handshake:

Hi Liz. I’ve been at the same weight for some months now but I’m still dropping dress, bra and undie sizes each month. I can’t rely on the scale to tell the whole truth, it’s just one bit of a large picture. Have you been measuring? I only measure everything about once a month now and inches are missing each time, even if the scale stays between 205-210 (I’m 5’8", 43).

You mentioned IF, TRE and elimination of dairy but are you eating enough? How are you feeling besides the decrease in pain? Staying hydrated, etc?

Thanks for your swift response, definitely staying hydrated and also my electrolytes are ok as no cramps anymore.
I tried not tracking my food/macros/calories but find that tough so am down to every other day! When I track I am at about 75% fat, carbs usually at less than 5/7g, mostly from hwc and/or cheese and the remainder protein. Hovering between 1250 - 1550 cals depending on hunger, on a longer fast it will be less as cannot eat enough in a short window.
You are right about sizes though…guess I needed that reminder as I have dropped two trouser sizes relatively quickly while the weight has been steady.
I will celebrate that and also start measuring which is something I have forgotten to do of late. Thanks so much

I found this really helpful and she is hilarious!
My scale has also gone feral! But as @PetaMarie I get smaller! I refuse to panic. I was generally a normal weight until I was in my late 40s( helped by multiple diets and slimming clubs of course). and then the dreaded menopause, and a little depression and apathy. A wrecked metabolism and there it was - “oh it’s harder to lose weight as you get older” blah blah!
But I have lost 3 1/2 stone in the last 15 1/2 months and kept it off. I look pretty good (for me :joy:)and I’m happy, for now. I used to be a bit of a Bridget Jones, I would announce “I have lost 2stone this year” :grinning: … and put on 2st and 2lbs
Also I have looked at people who have lost a lot of weight quickly, I don’t want a face like a burst balloon. I know keto is less likely to do this but some of my body parts haven’t heard about that … yet! KCKO!

I second the advice to take measurements since they’ll be more accurately indicative of your progress, but in case you don’t know: dairy does stall fat loss in many people (sadly…).

Once you’re fat adapted - which I imagine you are! - you should be able to get most of your calories from your stored fat. How are you with fasting? (I know that’s not for everyone, but if you can swing several 40-hr fasts in a week, you’ll likely see some more dramatic changes, possibly on the arthritis front as well)

Thanks! I will watch her shortly, I have been on a diet on and off since I was about 8 and my weight had been all over the place, definitely a metabolism that needs to heal. That said I have already dropped 52lbs since April so I guess my body needs to catch up!
I shall measure and try, at 57, to learn patience while I kcko

Thanks Madeleine, I have done a couple of 26hr fasts…odd number but caved in at that point each time!
Stopped the dairy for a month and no changes, other than I felt hungrier without the hwc in coffee…may be a mental thing and I may well need to revisit this.
I will aim for some longer fasts as you suggest and work my way up to 40 hours.

Thank you! I’m listening now to Nurse Cindy to it now and it’s very insightful! She is giving me serious HOPE right now!
