What's your keto goal?

(Aimee Moisa) #1

Not all of us here want to lose weight or defeat diabetes or help with cancer or PCOS, but i am pretty sure all of us have both large and small goals we are trying trying to achieve by eating keto. I am so focused on avoiding diabetes and getting rid of the weight so I can ride bike with my girl that I forget about keeping up short term and other long term goals.

What are some of your short and long-term goals?

Here is a new one I found at Target today. Mind you, I am currently a 4XL.

My goal - I do have a weight goal. I’ve been there and it feels right to me. 160 lbs.

Also I want to get rid of PCOS. We are Catholic and do not believe in contraception. So we basically play Russian Roulette. We are hoping our family is complete, but with random ovulating and nonovulatory cycles, I’m afraid we will end up with another late-in-life baby. This happened 2 years ago and we ended up with a stillborn baby boy and we just can’t go through that again.

Short term goal : improving A!C results / quitting my meds
Long term goal: Weight loss and the ability to walk a couple of miles without dying.

I don’t really have a set goal anymore. Initially weight loss, now muscle gain… but mainly just a constant focus on being as healthy as possible.

I’m pretty close to @Shortstuff. I don’t have any major medical issues like cancer or diabetes. I’d just like to be healthier and stronger overall. Still would like to take off the last 10 vanity pounds, but I’m not in a rush.

I want to run half marathons regularly. Maybe, maybe put a full marathon on my bucket list. I want to feel full of life and ready to take on new adventures.

Oh, I almost forgot. The most important goal for me is maintenance. I want of the diet rollercoaster FOR EVER!’n

Sorry for your loss. That’s so hard.

Weight loss WAS number 1, but keeping reactive hypoglycemia at bay forever is now in first place. There are dozens of ways I could have lost weight and not achieved this goal. Going through life constantly worrying that I would have a blood sugar drop, always eating to try and keep it from happening, was the pits.

And, of course, now that I’ve REALLY learned about the role of insulin in diabetes, keeping diabetes away has probably become my secondary goal. And while I would love to run a half marathon again, my legs and back have pretty much destroyed that dream, even after getting almost down to goal weight. And I always wanted to hike part of the Appalachian trail. Maybe 10 more pounds? So many goals, so little time…

Sorry to hear that, Michelle…

I keep a list on a reminder on my phone
To make my parents proud. My dad was and said so before he passed.
To make my children proud.
Improve the health of my kidneys. Last test was great
To be more active. Getting weigh off my arthritic feet will help.
To look better with clothes on. I’m there according to a cousin out for the memorial.
To weigh what my driver’s license says I weigh!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My goal … live healthy (mentally and physically) until I die.

Since I have Apoe3/4, my main concern is Alzheimers.

Keto will help me overcome the genetic predisposition.

(Tricia) #13

I would like to lose 8-9#s and maintain that. I want to keep myself healthy and strong at the gym, to keep up with my 2 1/2 yo granddaughter who thinks Nana can just spring up from the floor like she does! At 50, I think I do pretty good! Also, I don’t want to depend on anyone to do things for me. I want to do it myself!!

(Ron) #14

I mirror this goal completely and add to cure my diabetes in that health goal.

Short-term: (next 2 months) = lose some fat, clear up chronic water retention & allergies

Medium: (next 5 years) = get off medications for asthma and inflammatory conditions, improve mental and emotional functioning

Long-term: (upcoming decades) = prevent cancer and dementia

My goal is to get off the crazy train!

I have been very successful in the past, counting every calorie I put in my mouth and every calorie I exercise, counting macros etc. and I’m just so done with it. It’s so much work and I just want to live my life. I’m nearly 60, healthy and active. I want to enjoy food and this just makes sense. I’m mixing a keto diet with some fasting, hoping it will give me some freedom to eat socially and enjoy myself when I do.

So far so good. I’m down 12 pounds in my first month and I spent a week of that on vacation not paying any attention to diet. FREEDOM!!

I need to lose 40 - 50 more pounds. Short term goal would be to lose 30 by an international trip I have in late September, to just be more comfortable - but that’s pretty ambitious so I’ll take what I can get.

  • Mobility: Be light enough to get back to jogging without damaging my knees, feet, and ankles

  • Closet/suitcase Space: Fit into all the clothes I have in boxes labeled “clothes that don’t fit.” And travel with more clothes in one bag.

  • Vanity: I’d like to have a butt again, and go down to only one chin.

  • Achievement: I want to get back to running Sprint triathlons.

Not necessarily in this order…

All my blood work to be normal.
To sleep through the night.
To be active and get out and do fun stuff regularly.
Walk an hour or two without my knees screaming.
Improved mood.
New hair growth.

Short term goal : to reduce my A1c in order to avoid being put back on meds!

(Vivienne Clampitt) #20

Long term goal : to stay of meds as long as I possibly can!
to prevent occurances of any cardio vascular events or illnesses related to diabetes( I saw my dad suffer with diabetes and dementia and heart problems - a good enough reason to avoid!)
