đŠ What's Thanksgiving Dinner Gonna Cost You?
I thought you meant in terms of post-holiday fasting
This is the first year since my husband and I married 15 years ago that I am not cooking Thanksgiving. Visiting my son and grandsons in Houston so my cost is a bottle of red wine and a bouquet of flowers for my daughter-in-law
Nuttin, zippo. I donât celebrate holidays. (In Canada Thanksgiving is in October, but same answer.)
I understand about the rising food costs, but my grocery bill has been cut in half since going ârelaxed carnivoreâ (keto minus most plant products).
In the past, potatoes would almost always be on sale for less than $1 for a 10-pound bag as a grocery store special for the week before Thanksgiving.
Honestly didnât notice a difference this year vs any other. But I also live in an affordable-ish part of the country. At least where I am, an hour north everything costs double.
We are having left over chicken breast with goat cheese and tomatoes as our main, green beans, and garlic cauliflower mash. All of which has been purchased over the last 10-5 days. Prices were not any higher than usual on any of it. In fact the wine we will be drinking was on special instead of the champers we would normally buy. So that drives the cost way downwards.
Helps of course that it is just the two of us.
Happy Thanksgiving. In this challenging year, there is still a lot to be thankful today.
no clue cause I am eating filet mignon and shrimp which to me is a normal zero carb eating day anyway thrown into my variety of my lifestyle LOL But I saw frozen turkey at .29 per lb which I thought was darn cheap so?
I wasnât low carb at the time but we also celebrated last month because my husband, Canuck that he his, dragged me up here to the frozen north where they celebrate thanksgiving in the wrong month and he never even warned me before we moved here! Imagine my shock when he wanted me to cook a whole Thanksgiving dinner 1 month early! (Iâm just teasing the Canadians) My husband likes to tease back by saying putting thanksgiving too close to Christmas is annoying and spacing out the holidays is betterâŠkinda cant argue! Anyway, this year we were too lazy to go to the store for anything special so we actually used only what was in our fridge already for our regular grocery shopping! I made sage-mushroom-apple stuffed chickens the extra stuffing was on the side since it doesnât fit in even 2 chickens, maple candied carrots, rolls, roastie potatoes, steamed cabbage fresh from our garden, gravy and apple pie with fresh apples from our orchard. Probably cost ~$20 (CAD) chicken being the most expensive thing and it probably could have fed at least 8 people though it was just my husband, me, and our toddler eating. Doesnât seam expensive though I actually donât know how the price of that dinner compares to a regular meal for us. We live in an expensive part of the country too.
Ironically I spent Thanksgiving with more people this year than in the past 5. Usually have 2 friends come to Arkansas so typically only 4 people. I miss my boys as I havenât seen them much this year so came to see them. So family of 4, hubby and I and a childhood friend of my son who always called me âMomâ and his daughter. So 8 total. We hugged and socialized like normal.
I wonât be around anyone for 2 weeks after I get home so if I catch any COVID cooties I wonât be spreading them around.
I celebrate holidays but i guess i forgot to this year⊠was very busy finishing up school⊠but typically dinner is chicken anyway. Imnot a believer in turkey comaâs
