What WOE did you come from?

Have you noticed that most articles knocking keto do so by holding up the holy grail of diets, the Mediterranean. What bugs me is that I doubt anyone comes to keto from that healthy way of eating. They come to keto like I did from a diet of chips and crackers and muffins.

How many of you, like me, were high carbs/high fats followers? I bet most of us were HCHF. Did any of you actually drop a Mediterranean routine to come to Keto???

I came from ALL OF THEM.
Last I was doing for longest (on and off for 3 years or so) was weight watchers no matter how much I was restricting I was always tired after lunch almost falling asleep in meetings.

I thought I was moderate carb til I ended up here. I was doing calorie deficit (CICO) to lose 53 pounds only to gain 30 back. This WOE is so much easier.

I love it was the vegan or vegetarian crowd says that keto is so restrictive because it eliminates an entire food group and that is why it is not sustainable.

I was a calorie counter. CICO… ugh.

I came from moderate carb Always Hungry by Dr David Ludwig. Of course, I did best on that when I didn’t add the slow carbs I was supposed to have. He seems to think that keto is too restrictive, even if science points to great data from keto. I’ve also been lower carb than the SAD for 9 years, as I discovered gluten was causing my migraines and I didn’t see much point in using GF substitutes but rather went for whole-er foods. Still had tons of sugar though.

I’m loving keto, and it seems to love me back. Back in the not-so-good-old days I’m know I could put down 3,000-7,000 kcal in a day. Malabsorption will let you ā€œget away withā€ a lot. I never exceeded 210 on my 5’7ā€ frame. I never did calorie restriction of any type for more than a week or two, so despite my interesting gut history, I seem to have a rather robust metabolism. I’m thankful for that for sure!!!

I wasn’t following any specific WOE immediately prior to keto but had been sugar free for many years already.

I was a 14 year Gastric Bypass carb monger…probably 80% of my diet was rice, pasta or bread. Because of the small size of my stomach I would eat smooshy things that would pass through quickly. I stumbled on Keto in a desperate search to get back to the WOE I should have been doing for the last 10 years. I am so thankful I found it!

Just typical junk food with the occasional decent meal thrown in.

I consider Mediterranean and low-carb to be similar eating plans, with about 80% overlap. Either seems to be a healthy way of eating, just depends on which one you can stick to and get the best results from.

I came from ; eat whatever my emotion state told me to.

Which was generally high fat / high carb / low as hell protein

I came from Gatorade power bars and Cheezits and gigantic salads and vegetarianism which is probably why this way of eating is working so well for me and I feel so much better.

I was doing a Flexitarian version of the Mediterranean Diet before switching to Low Carb and then Keto. While on the former I ended up gaining weight and becoming Pre-Diabetic, so I would say it didn’t work for me.

No diet - just eat ā€˜ā€™healthyā€ but I had no idea what that meant.

Low fat? Low oil? And other random notions. (I now know they were planted by big food and the SAD)

Surprised that avoiding carbs was the key.

I came from general junk, but have tried juice fasting, low fat, calorie counting, I also struggle with Binge Eating Disorder so there’s that too. Keto is helping me with so many things now not just blood sugar!
