What to eat?

(Ellen) #1

Got a real craving for jacket spud with cheesy beans, as I’ve not eaten anything today am thinking of having a small tin of beans (17.6g carbs) with a shed load of cheese & butter. Is it a bad idea to give in to carb craving even though I’d stay below my 20g???

ok, what is a Jacket Spud with cheesy beans

(Ellen) #3

Baked potato with beans & lashings of grated cheese.

I wouldn’t recommend it, it will likely only perpetuate the cravings.

Doesnt seem worth it.

of you could eat it and move on.

Think up another craving ? How about some fat craving ?

Agreed.

Have a fat bomb and go for a walk.

I wasn’t going to have the potato just the cheese n beans, but it didn’t really sit right with me, and all you lovely people also think it wouldn’t be great, so I won’t have it  will either have something else or continue my fast (and that’s a sentence old me would never have said!!)

We all make our own choices and I am not going to criticize yours. All I can say is that I will not eat beans. I have accepted that there are many foods that I once loved that I will never eat again and I choose to focus on the foods that I can eat and do love instead.

Darn you Ellen … I am craving some Boar’s Head sandwich stile pepperoni wrapped around a chuck of smoked Gouda.

Warmest Regards,
Richard

What’s a boars head sandwich? Is it actually boar meat?

(Richard Hanson) #9

Boar’s Head is a brand … some of their products are even made without any added sugar at all. Unfortunately, not the sandwich stile pepperoni. My wife can buy a pound of that in the morning and it will be gone before I get home from work. :disappointed_relieved:

I haven’t eaten in 4 days and I would’nt even think of eating anything like that.

(Ellen) #11

Ah, I thought it was maybe pepperoni & gouda wraped in boar meat, which sounded pretty lush.

Go you! I’ve not managed to pass the 48hr mark fasting yet, on any attempt, not through hungry just purely psychological, will keep trying though.

On a side note I just want to say I love this forum and everyone in it!

Totally agree! Loved reading this thread. Too funny. I have cravings for the carbs bad lately!

I think it depends on your reasons to go keto and where you are at in your keto journey/recovery. For example if you are a type 1 diabetic trying to manage your condition with minimal insulin injections then it would make sense to keep carbs really low, even relatively low glycemic carbs such as beans. Careful monitoring of blood glucose answers the question of what foods and in what quantities are ok.

On the other hand if you went keto to shed a few excess pounds then I think the question is were beans a problem food that caused your weight gain? Are they something you binged on with regret the next day? If so put them on your toxic list - foods you don’t trust yourself to eat. For me that is things like fruit juices, soda, anything with added sugar or made from flour. Those are things I don’t have to ask anyone else if they are ok for me to eat. I know they are a problem for me just as booze is off limits for a recovered alcoholic. But for everything else I keep an open mind. If I can eat something in moderation and perceive no adverse reaction when I do then I’ll allow myself the indulgence and save my willpower for the things that matter most to me.

I know for me, all my striking surfaces will start to ache and I won’t be satisfied by the meal they’re in. :rage:

Some food is just not food to me anymore.
