What to do now?!

Okay here’s a bit about me before hand. I’ve been living a ketogenic lifestyle since the first week of January this year. No cheat days, hitting the gym a few times a week, and loving it! I went from 217lbs to my most recent weight of 150lbs. I was going to a country music festival for 5 days so I took a week off of keto because it would be way to hard to manage being there. I did eat alot of carbs, but I probably drank alot more carbs then I ate. I had a great time and don’t regret taking this week off at all. Now, today is my redemption day where I get back on my keto lifestyle. My only problem is, I don’t really know the best game plan to go with since I’ve never gone off of keto since I started. I’m planning on drinking my bulletproof coffee and water all day, but should I do a 2 day fast to cleanse out my body… Or just intermittent fasting? I go back to work in 2 days so I’d like to push past keto flu as quickly as I can so I’m able to function. Any advice or help?

Also, I’d like to add in that as a result of going off of keto and eating carbs/drinking an excessive amount of alcohol my entire body is swollen and retaining water. My feet/ankles are swollen and I can feel pockets of water in them whenever I take a step, I have a double chin which wasn’t there a week ago, and my belly is so bloated. I’ve been like this for 2 days now. I went from 150lbs to 162lbs in that week but I know it’s water weight. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Sorry for the long post! I just needed to get that all out lol.

The answer is, as it almost always is, :bacon: and :fried_egg:.

Fasting after carbing is really hard for me. Just goback to keto. You won’t get any flu. Your body already knows how to live off fat. Just takes a day for the carb hangries to go away.

Hi @denyel – if you’re like me, after 8 months, you are fat adapted and will not have keto flu. I find I can skip breakfast and lunch and eat a high-fat, zero-carb dinner and I’m fully back and recovered the next day.

Just get straight back to how you were before your week off and in a few days you’ll be well on your way back to where you were. You’re likely fat adapted now which will make it easier to get back into ketosis.

No need for any special regime, just stop eating carbs again. Your body doesn’t forget how to get it’s energy from fats after a week.

You can experience Keto Flu at any time if your electrolytes are off balance, not necessarily fat adapted

Similar to several of the responses I’d say just go back to eating Keto. I’d suggest to take some salt with you to work. If you start to feel a little “off”, put a little under your tongue or drink some salt water. That water weight has to go somewhere. When it does, you’re likely to lose some electrolytes.

Hi! Did you find your weight loss steady/ linear? I’m having a little trouble with my weight loss with it being up and down. Also, did you lose more weight in your first months? Great job with your keto lifestyle!!

Weight loss is never linear, always ups and downs especially for women.
