Feel like I should report this to the RSPCA!
What the... ?!
I’ll be getting a call from my vet tech son soon about the sick dogs coming in who’s owners are feeding the new vegan dog food. I’ll admit, I’m surprised someone had the nerve to manufacture and market this stuff.
Even the dog on the bag looks unenthusiastic.
Still, it might need to be protein enriched… or is a protein enriched vegan an omnivore?
I had a foster cat with neurological issues who I put on a grain free dry cat food thinking it would heal and he got really sick. Turns out the pea protein used was causing all kinds of problems in cats, including heart issues. Put him back on the good old fashioned cat food and he recovered. Sometimes if something isn’t broken we shouldn’t try and fix it.
A neurolocgically impaired foster cat sounds pretty broken to me . What cats eat grain anyway? Maybe paleo for cats might have been a better fit.
Here in Australia that consistis of lorikeets, bugerigars, sugar gliders, lizzards and all sorts of native animals - dont think that comes in a bag though.
Lol. Not a cat fan, myself.
Me either. I was rehabbing wildlife and had just released my overwintered squirrels and felt lonely and this sort of landed in my lap. He found a forever home, which is good because I’m not really a cat person.
Don’t get me wrong, @PetaMarie, I’d love cats if the ate grass instead of native fauna and had the personality of a dog.
I watched a documentary once about how rampant the feral cats are in Australia. I felt bad for the wildlife, they aren’t native. Here people get angry at free roaming cats for killing song birds.
When I got him he was walking into walls, which pulled at my heart strings. By the end he was a normal pain in the butt regular cat so it was time for him to mosey on.
Well cats aren’t a population problem here in rural Arkansas but my own fierce huntress has known to capture a song bird or two. But we have hundreds of song birds and she earns her keep by decimating the mouse population, which eliminates the snake food so they move off into the woods instead of infesting our wood pile. (country, not urban problem).
We can pick logs off the top of the pile for our wood stove but you better use a hoe to turn over the last layer, looking for copperheads
Feeding dogs and cats vegan is idiotic vegan stupidity working full time. Cats are obligate Carnivores and dogs are Omnivores with a strong leaning towards Carnivore. It really pisses me off, this is a new level of ignorant vegan philosophy. They can’t even take care of their own heath, and shouldn’t be allowed to have pets, or children who also suffer inadequate nutrition on the vegan diet. I have read of cases where vegans had their children taken away in Europe for endangering their health and development. A few cases of death from malnutrition have occurred prompting these laws. I believe it first happened in Italy.
We have the black snakes called black racers here because of their speed. Non-poisonous so we leave them alone. They (and my hunter cat) keep the mouse and subsequently the snake population down.
Only the highly poisonous copperheads get chopped with a hoe on my property. Black snakes get a bye.
You should. And I should and so should others.
but if the protein content is within reason on the ingredients, even if from veggie protein only…then I guess they are within the laws of selling this product to feed dogs.
omg, talk about killing our pets faster than normal~!
Strikes me that keeping pets isn’t a terribly vegan thing to do in the first place…
Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you know that I built a brick wall over here, just in case anyone wants to bang their head on it.

Oh yes! You guys should see how crazy my dog goes when my neighbours are growing corn and soy! The little bugger goes over there and industrially processes the things in order to get vegetable oil! He loves the stuff! He’s also been known to dig up potatoes from time to time! The vegans finally got it right!
But really, what even is maize gluten? I thought corn wasn’t a gluten containing grain? What even is millmix? How is this nothing artificial when it’s all man made?
HA HA
ahh, but behavior and bored troubles to suit his mental needs of digging and exploring or is it a true body must have of oil?
one will never know HAHA
I had a Great Dane who stole tomatoes and zucchinis off the vine every time she got a chance. Animal carnivores are not strictly carnivore in nature because they eat the stomach and intestines of their prey, and they usually contain plant material. I have had Great Danes and/or German Shepherds all my life, and they ate basic dog food which always has some sort of grain or veg included. It should just be a small percentage though and not the base nutrition. A raw diet, primarily fresh meat with some veg or grain added, seems to be the best diet for dogs, albeit it is costly and labor intensive. Dogs digest this much more efficiently, including raw chicken bones which, if cooked, would injure the intestines. ( best side effect for us humans for feeding dogs a raw diet is the stool, which is small, firm and pretty much odorless.)
Herbivores will come across bugs and other animal matter and eat it from time to time, whereas carnivores will eat plant matter from time to time. Some of my cats happen to love coconut oil. My problem is: carnivores aren’t herbivores and herbivores aren’t carnivores. You wouldn’t feed a cow an all meat diet, so don’t feed a dog an all plant diet.
I wouldn’t dream of doing so, and I never said that I would or recommended that at all. Quite the opposite. I merely mentioned that some plant material is ingested. Read the rest of the post.
