What SIZE Instant Pot?

Fellow Keto foodies, I have ready all of your comments on which brand and model of Instant Pot May be the “best.” I have decided on the Instant Pot Duo Plus model. But now the question remains… what size? I, like Richard Morris, like to make a big Boston Butt and then vacuum save portions to freeze for later meal prep. We have a family of 3 adults. I generally cook most of the day on Monday so we can have meals throughout the week since I teach pottery afternoons and evenings and it’s too late to cook at 10 PM whem I get home. So naturally I think the 8 quart must be “the best” because it’s the biggest. But where there are pros there are always cons. Does anyone own a 8 quart Instant Pot? And do they find it ridiculously large or cumbersome or even hard to see into if you are only 5’2” like me? Once we ordered the biggest top-loading pottery kiln on the market to get the best bang for our bucks, but it was so hard to get into that we sold it 5 years later.

And if you have a 6 qt, does it cook a big ole Boston Butt just fine?

I have the Duo Plus 60 model (6-quart). The capacity of the inner container is 8 1/2" in diameter, 5 1/2" deep.

I have never cooked (or seen) a “Boston butt” so I don’t know how big that is.

Assuming you have normal-height counters, the Duo Plus 60 should be quite easy to see into. It is 13" tall. The 8-quart is not much taller (about 1" according to their stated dimensions) so I would not expect any problems there - about 14 1/2" tall.

I have the 8 quart and love it. I haven’t any problem seeing into it and I’m 5’5. I don’t think 3 inches smaller would change that.

Edit: Just checked. With the lid off the eight quart stands only 11 inches. You’ll not have any issues seeing into it.

A Boston Butt is a pork shoulder. At least that’s what they call pork shoulders in the south.

I’m 5’3” with an 8 qt. I love it. I make big batches of bone broth. No physical difficulty issues

Interesting. I have lived in the south my entire life, in the heart of barbecue territory, and have always heard it called pork shoulder. Boston is up where them Yankees live.

If interested
Right now the 6 qt is still $87 ( US ) on Amazon

Good luck

The part of the South where I live, it’s a Boston Butt. What’s a pork shoulder?:smiley:

I went with the LUX 6 qt.it does a large corned beef easily. I can pile bones from several chickens in there for bone broth.

We are a two adults household, so no need for the 8 quart size. A larger family of over 4 might need the extra.

Lol! Maybe it’s like French Fries not being called that in France. In North Carolina and Florida grocery stores, a pork shoulder says, “Boston Butt” in the label.

I ended up going for the big 8 quart Duo Plus Instant Pot model, and I’m glad I did. So far I have cooked chili, bone broth, split pea soup and goulash in it. Thanks for everyone’s advice!

I hope you can get your Butts to fit into it.
