What’s the best Vegan Keto book?

(Lucy) #1

I am just doing normal Keto and I’m not by any means vegan but I just wondered if anyone knew of a good book to give it a bash!

I have looked online at recipes and I don’t know if I trust the info I have found.

I have also searched for books online and there are MANY!

Any help appreciated :hugs:

I’d like this answer also from someone who might’ve tried it. My daughter is vegan, but she’s mostly a Breaditarian

I have this one -

The recipes look really fiddly and annoying so I’ve not made any of them yet, but I expect this will be the case with all vegan keto recipes.

Thanks-I saw that one!

Are you vegan by any chance?

If so what do you eat on Keto?

No I’m not. Used to be and would like to get back to more of a plant based way of doing things, but without sacrificing my health and also without having to spend loads of time cooking and prepping food. I was hoping to get some ideas from the book but it’s not made things seem hopeful…

I follow someone on Instagram whose recipes I like the look of-I think they have a book too but I can’t figure out which one it is!

Wait a minute! That book is her book! Just saw it on her Instagram

There’s a book called Keto-tarian but he advocates fish and eggs too. I think the idea of keto vegan is kind of being on the fence as even doable. Vegan protein sources aren’t keto friendly. You can’t get enough protein to meet your needs without a higher carb level. And a diet where a vitamin supplement is required is an unnatural diet. I believe that being vegan is a major long term compromise on your health over an emotional aversion to meat or animal foods which were a necessity for our evolution as a species. Our big brains and shortened digestive track are what made us become the apex species on the planet. Primates like gorillas have very long digestive tracks and small brains because of their vegan diet. We evolved past that and there isn’t a healthy way to go against 2.5 million years of evolution. Give this short article a read, less than ten minutes. :cowboy_hat_face:

Ok I will take a look thank you.

I do agree that vitamin b12 supplements aren’t the best and I also read an article by Dr Michael Mosley that mentioned a study that concluded even though a group of people were taking it they were in fact still deficient in it.

The article is written by an ex vegan who was hitting a wall. :cowboy_hat_face:

I was trying to brainstorm any helpful vegan foods that aren’t too high carb…it is really difficult - I am not vegan, but did eat strictly vegan for about 6 mo before going to Keto WOE. If you were trying to stay under 20 carbs, I feel like it would be a full time commitment just to figure out a realistic sustainable meal plan. Good options though might include avocado, hemp seeds, and coconut cream/milk/meat. I myself would have difficulty with any of the recipes that have more than a handful of whole food ingredients and maybe one special needed item…not really in the mood for science experiments these days lol and if it goes wrong those crazy special ingredients can be a lot of money wasted.

Of course there are always healthy oils too like avocado, coconut, and olive oil that could be drizzled on low carb veggies too!

There’s various people on YouTube who are vegan and keto but I stopped watching them as it’s so hard to find vegan info that doesn’t launch tirades of abuse against people who choose to eat meat. Even when I was vegan, for about ten years, I distanced myself from that community as it was just so full of harshly judgemental people. Live and let live, allow people to choose their own way.
