What range really falls into ketosis?

I have read you can’t go into ketosis over 20 grams of net carbs. I’ve also read between 20-50. I’ve also read anything under 100 and today I saw something that said up to 150 net carbs haha so is there an exact answer? The reason I ask is because money is tight literally until tomorrow and I’m working all day and I haven’t eaten more than 15-35 grams of net carbs a day. I try to stay at 20 but…it happens. I need to plan better. I am giving in for today and ordering wings. I don’t like any other flavor but bbq and I know it’s jam packed with carbs so I’ll be adding on like 60 net carbs to my diet today. I already have 20. Do you think this will knock me out of ketosis? Thanks

Everyone is different, so there is no exact answer. Everyone is probably also different on different days.
It depends on your own metabolic health which is something that can only be measured through trial and error.
We recommend 20g because for 99% of people it guarantees ketosis. There are some people who can then increase their daily limit to 30-50 or beyond, but you will only know if you can by trying different limits and doing a blood test for ketones.
Edited to add, as far as the wings go. Make your choice, if you can get hot wings rather than bbq it will be much lower, but tomorrow go back to below 20g. The world won’t end.

How long have you been Keto? Some people can tolerate more carbs, but it best to stay under twenty in the beginning. A few months in you should be able to start experimenting with adding carbs back. Under 20 guarantees ketosis, so that is a good place to stay for a while.

I’ve only been doing keto for maybe 2 and a half weeks now so yeah it’s still the beginning and kind of an awkward one. I haven’t really found my footing quite yet but I’ve stuck to it this whole time so far. I’ve lost 10 pounds which I’m sure was water weight.

Ten pounds of water weight is great. Keep asking questions if you are unsure of anything, we love to help!

Thanks!

Hi, I have only recently started myself, I find it quite difficult to count exactly how many carbs I am eating, but monitoring my blood ketone level seem help me know I am in nutritional Ketosis.
Up to now I have only really noticed increased energy, I have not noticed any anti-inflammatory effects yet and other benefits, can anyone give me an idea when I should see something noticeable?
Thanks Dave

There are many tracking apps you can use. I started tracking a few weeks in and it really helped me to find out exactly how many carbs I was consuming.

I use an app called ‘carb manager’ it helps me keep track of net carbs and my macros. Easier than manually trying to figure it out. and I wish my transition was that smooth haha I’ve had nausea, headaches, etc. Mostly because I keep running out of things that are supposed to help those things stay way. Like I said, awkward footing. I’m going to stock up more on things this time around.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
I did try a app a couple of days ago, I set it up after breakfast and was impressed, but at lunch it stopped working until I upgraded (sorry I deleted it and can’t remember the name).
I have just bought “KetoDiet” app only £7.00 which is a lot cheaper than using blood Keto strips, will give that a try, just time consuming filling it in after every meal.
I think I have been in nutritional Ketosis for a few weeks only around 1.5 my/l max, most of the time under 1mm/l, do you think I should see more significant health benefits if I was say around 3mm/l plus or does it not work like that?
Dave

Keto-adaptation, or fat-adaptation, usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Sometimes it happens earlier, sometimes it takes longer. Often we notice good effects and then experince further improvement over the long term. (I certainly have.) If you are already noticing increased energy, that is a very good sign. One way to tell when you have become fat adapted is if you are an athlete and you notice that your performance has returned to or is exceeding your previous level. (There is usually a noticeable performance hit during the adaptation phase.)

Thank you! Use your likes carefully; they are rationed. We get more as we increase in trust level, but I find it frustrating when the system starts warning me to go easy! :bacon:

Ok thanks for the advise :+1:

So even after my cheat last night, I bought some ketone strips today because I was planning on doing so anyway and according to that I’m still in deep ketosis… unless things like this take longer to make a difference?

Good job! Maybe the coating on the wings wasn’t as carby as you feared.
