Keto is a huge lifestyle change for many as nutrition is so vital to how we live but what other changes have you made? Sleep? Meditation? Setting boundaries/learning to say “no?” Exercise? Evaluating relationships?
What other lifestyle changes have you made alongside keto?
The last 3 weeks I have been lifting at the gym before work and the last week or so my desire is to add much more cardio into my life, I had an NSV with running and want more of that!
Also my 6 year old daughter has taken a liking to asking me what is healthy, I love this so much and feel like she is learning proper especially in a time where schools serve so much sugar!
Learning to say no has just gotten easier over time. I’m excited to add more and more healthy things to my life as I get the things I’m already doing down.
Not sure that I consciously tied it to keto, but I started playing ultimate Frisbee weekly with my kids’ youth group at church. Trying to keep up with a dozen or so teens for a couple of hours a week will definitely help with fitness.
A more considered decision was starting resistance training, and buying a power cage and a barbell set that goes up to 300lbs. Not close to maxing out the bar yet, but I’ve made a good bit of progress, notwithstanding being set back a few weeks by a broken foot.
In my experience, working on one positive habit can definitely help make it easier to add others. So going keto, and sticking with it, tends to lead in a good direction overall. But the catalyzing habit could be something else, too.
I quit smoking. I had a 40 yr. habit and many, many attempts to quit. This last quit (more tha 5 yrs. ago) was a breeze. Keto? I like to think so.
I have gotten back into cooking again. For awhile I had been soured on it and didn’t enjoy it as much as I used to. Since reading all the books about Keto and coming to this forum I have been enjoying my time in the kitchen again. Also in my garden. This week I have spent a lot of time out there, even though it was hot. That also means I am outside more. I was staying in the house all the time because I have trouble walking, but now I am outside and even walking down the road a bit to take pictures.
A big change for me is that I purchased some new clothes. I have not cared about how I looked and barely even looked in the mirror. Even though it is early for seeing a change in my sizes, I tend to wear clothes too big, baggy and they do not make me look good. Now I feel like I am doing something positive about myself and am ready for the new me.
I don’t know if it has anything to do with Keto or not, but since I am in a good mood, I find myself listening to music almost all day long, unless I am working on the computer. Music always puts me in a good mood and before I didn’t want to be in a good mood because I was disappointed in how I turned out. I am 65 and feel this has to be it for me. I have to be successful this time and I will be.
I gave up coffee and watched my blood pressure drop ten points on both sides in two days. Evidently I am sensitive to caffeine.
I also switched to a standing desk at work. I highly recommend that too.
I’ve learned to be kinder to my body and stop seeing it as ‘the enemy.’ Keto has helped me listen to my body and what it needs instead of starving it on some worthless diet that doesn’t help anyway cause it’s full of carbs.
Also, moving more. Exercising daily and walking my dog more, plus just moving more at work (desk job here!)
Also talking more to people whereas before I started keto I was more reserved and afraid to engage people.
So for me it was the other way around, gave up booze n them started keto then started more aerobic vs anaerobic training … loving it all
Going for walks more often, exploring new cooking techniques and recipes, and drinking only a couple quality drinks and being content as opposed to drinking 5 beers and feeling bloated and crappy for 3 days. I think decreased consumption overall on keto easily offsets the additional costs of purchasing quality meats, booze, produce, etc. The strong desire to exercise is also coming into the picture which is pretty cool.
A lot more exercise, I constantly seem to have energy that needs to be burnt off. I swim 3 times a week and have got into walking pretty much every day, usually 5-6 miles but last night I kept going and ended up at 13 miles.
