What is your daily intake of salt?

What is your daily intake of salt while on keto?

One table spoon per day
Less than a table spoon
More than a table spoon

or specify if you have accurate amount

I don’t measure my salt intake. I have just been in the habit of salting my food to taste.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #3

I haven’t actually measured, but it’s a fair amount. If I don’t get enough salt, I get headaches and constipation. Fortunately, I have always liked the taste.

I stopped worrying about salt after watching a lecture by Dr. Andrew Mente of McMaster University, one of the head researchers on a project called PURE (Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology), an ongoing study of 125,000 people in 17 countries around the world. One interesting result they published was that the healthiest sodium intake appeared to be in the range of 4-6 g/day. This is 10-15 g/day of table salt, sodium chloride, which is around two or three U.S. teaspoons.

Only what I put on my food to taste, regardless of carb intake I hold water when I overdo salt. Only time I intentionally add a little on purpose is around my workouts or long sauna sessions.

I add salt to the water I drink all day. I would guess I get a couple tablespoons a day. I always drink a large glass of salted water before bed. Some might not be able to do this if it means getting up in the night to use the bathroom. But that’s not an issue for me.

One teaspoon, maybe a bit more, around 5g, from my food only. It’s my ideal amount I automatically keep most of the time (as far as I can tell. I only measured it a few times but these were longer times and yep, that’s my average, it seems). If circumstances (or strange taste changes due to my carnivore trials) still changes it, I feel off and inevitably go back to my usual intake. It works well on all diets for me. Never wanted more salt on keto and when I had more (very salted pork but I had no better options back then), I got salt aversion and burning and simply stopped to add salt to anything… So I can’t even try a different amount for long. But it works and it’s automatic normally so I am fine if it’s just about salt  If everything would be nearly this easy!

I hate salty water so I never would consume that. I can eat salt if needed but I just don’t feel it ever. I would think about adding salt if I did longer fasts again but I can’t even skip a day on very low-carb.
