What is the right level of ketosis?

#1

Hi all,

New to the group and looking for some help kick starting my ketogenic program. I have been doing it (on my own via books and internet info) for a few weeks now. My ketone strips are at the “small” amount level. I am not losing weight nor am I feeling much of anything else like I felt last time I did ketogenic diet for just a few weeks ( a few years ago)

Is my problem that I need to get my ketones up to moderate or even high? That doesn’t seem to jive with the research I have, but wondering what others have experienced here.

I have been so careful with carbs. Is it possible I am having too few? My energy level is low, which is different from last time as well.

It might be worthwhile to add that I am nearing 50 and going through some hormonal changes, so it seems natural that my body might respond differently this time around, but still… I expected to be feeling better than this by now.

I am 56 and just got some help finding my actual macros. I have been eating Keto two years and just learned that I am not getting near enough fat in. You may need to tweak yours too? I have some food intolerances so no eggs, dairy, or nuts…but I can do bacon and butter! So I am learning what my body needs.
I also just started doing total carbs and I am seeing the scale go down. I just measure ketones to make sure I am in ketoses not a high number. “No reason to chase the ketones” my coach said. Getting high numbers does not mean better.

I have been under 20 carbs for three weeks, but only show trace on the urine test strips. I know everyone says the strips are unreliable but I would still like evidence I am doing something right. Could not enough fats be an issue causing the test strips to not turn pink?

Thank you! I can’t tolerate dairy, but maybe I can try adding in butter. I have been adding coconut oil/MCT and olive oil everywhere I can think of.

I think maybe I need a coach! LOL!

Thanks again!

I found that bacon fat is wonderful. I add it to my roasted veggies and even in my coffee! Yes…it may sound strange but it really does not weird me out anymore and it does not disrupt the flavor of my coffee. Yippie for good fats!!

You go girl! We got this!!

Regina,

A trace is just fine…it does not have to be dark burgundy to be in Ketoses. Being pink is wonderful. You may see the color disappear over time…I did. But my friend Shannon continued to see pink. So everyone is different. Just eat clean and love the feeling!

Best to you,

Kathryn
