What is almost (but not really) enough to make you quit keto?

(Joanna Parszyk ) #41

I totally agree with your approach. Unless your health hevilly depends on staying in ketosis 100% of the time or for the weight loss you prefer all or naothing approach.
BTW France is actually ridiculously Keto friendly if you drop the pastry’s and baguette. In a fancy resto l go for snails in butter as a starter and for main whatever meat/fish/poultry with very heavy sos or a simple butter. Dessert is a cheese platter and followed by black coffee. A bit of champagne for an apéro, red wine with main and l cannot complain!
I live in Luxembourg so it is literally across the border

I don’t wanna quit keto. Can’t think of a good reason. If I slip, it’s generally in the paleo direction with maybe a little bit of sweet potato or something similar. But that’s just on occasion, then I’m right back to keto. Most of the pre-keto carbs don’t even taste all that good anymore.

I eat so well on keto, why would I want anything else?!

(Nummy) #43

fresh baked cookies, cake, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, cheese cake, cream sticks or pretty much any donut

(Brian) #44

I can and do all of those things keto… when I want them. Even with the keto ones, though, I’m getting that I really don’t want them nearly as much as I used to. That’s probably a good thing. But don’t think that you can’t have keto versions of all of those things if you want to take the time and effort to make them. Some of them are just as tasty as their carb/sugar cousins, too.

Beer, beer, and more beer  oh and peanut butter cups. Luckily I’m good with low carb beer and the occasional peanut butter cup

Re the OP: My clothes are a very personal thing. Other people’s idea of what I should wear gives me the creeps. If I had some big bucks and could hire an expert to choose clothes that met MY criteria, that might be okay.

As for what might make me quit keto? Probably being sociable and traditional. Eating with others who are not supportive puts me on very shaky ground. Refusing dinner invitations, ignoring holidays, etc., makes it possible for me to continue.

Some years ago, when I was on Atkins, my then-husband took took me out for a birthday “surprise.” After driving for about 3 hours, we arrived at his friend’s place, where the friend’s wife had cooked a special birthday dinner for me. Of course it was something I didn’t want to eat. My husband knew I was on Atkins. Very disheartening. I don’t blame him–I guess he didn’t understand, or didn’t put 2 and 2 together–but it never would have happened if I’d told him I can’t eat with other people (except maybe in certain restaurants).

For movies try ChocZero chocolate Keto bark. It will set you free

The end of the world would make me quit, but then everyone else would quit too!

(Karen) #49

Actually I think I would quit if anything else actually worked. There are a lot of foods that make me feel happier, some foods that make me even feel healthier. There are combinations of foods that make me practically want to sing my stomach feels so good. I like meats, I like fats, I like green vegetables but there are a lot of other things that I like better. A kale salad with nuts and cheeses and some meats and some quinoa and some dried fruits actually make me feel better. Keto foods are delicious, don’t get me wrong, but they’re limited in color, flavors and seriously limited in texture. Hard to get crunch, and chewiness. I’ve been keto for about a year now, I’ve healed some things, and I’ve lost weight.

Oh, many things. Butter croissants, prosecco, custard tarts, chunky peanut butter Kitkats, cinnamon rolls, pizza.

(John) #51

Not any particular food, but just the time commitment required for all of the grocery shopping, food prep, meal planning, cooking, and post-cooking cleanup.

I realize that is part of any healthy diet based on real foods, and has nothing to do with keto per se, but that’s my biggest challenge and is the most fragile part of my routine.

When I really don’t want to cook, I’ll have some salami or pepperoni and cheese, maybe some pork rinds or olives. Nothing wrong with making that your dinner!

(Heather Meyer) #53

I would say probably a natural disaster…I would find it hard in our small rural town to recover easily and would be difficult to cook meat without hydro if the power was out and since im not one to store nuts and jerky… probably would have to live off canned soup or bread or ???
Havent honestly given much thought.

Also… from experience… i quit keto when my marriage was in the toilet for a few months. I stress ate/emotioanlly ate for months to try and cope(bad coping mechanism) and find myself 60 lbs heavier because of it.

(Ellen) #54

Sorry to hear that Heather. Yeah, zombie apocalypse would probably have me eating whatever was at hand.

I’m not trying to be rude, just looking for clarity:

The OP says you have a friend is encouraging and wants to help you out and treat you when you reach your goals, but the thread is about what makes you want to quit keto? I’m not sure I understand the connection. Why is her encouragement (almost) enough to make you want to give up keto?

But, to answer the question the title asks, I would have to say “contrast” - I’ve been keto for about 9 months now and I love it. the only problem is that because it works so well and has let me take weight off and keep it off and has overall improved my mental and emotional state, now, what was new and exciting has just become status quo. I’m half-tempted to just eat SAD for a month and then go back to keto just for the joys of feeling keto again lol! Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, I’m sure, but it’s true for me.

I guess for now an occasional cheat day serves the same purpose without sabotaging my health

Days like today… I can’t say I want to quit keto exactly, but the temptation to walk away for a bit is there.

Today is one of those days I feel kinda down. It has nothing to do with the diet or weight loss or actually feeling tired or ill or anything like that. But I’m a little discouraged with some other things happening in life, don’t want to go into detail on that.

But at times like this, I find it easy to be tempted at things I wouldn’t ordinarily be tempted by at all. I was in a couple of stores today and actually paused to think about getting some kind of a candy bar or pastry or something else that I absolutely know I’d be sorry for at least by the second bite. I didn’t do it. I didn’t even do the flavored seltzer water in the cans for $0.25 at the bumps n bargains store.

The mental stuff is a little different when my mood is different. I probably could use a little Vitamin D, will have to take care of that. Fasting until supper tonight which will be 24 hours, not really planned, just the way stuff worked out today. Not hungry but kinda “restless”, hard to put into words. Heavy storms interrupted sleep last night, that might have some impact too.

Just sharing…

(mags) #57

I know what you mean. There are some days when the urge to cheer yourself up with something different is strong. Usually I don’t even see the cakes, pastries, sandwiches (my particular temptations) on the shelves. But occasionally they yell at me. So far I haven’t been randomly tempted. Any cheats have been planned in advance for an occasion. Then I eat every damn thing in sight!
Good luck to you with your urges. Tomorrow hopefully will be a better day.

(Running from stupidity) #58

Man, ain’t that the truth.

(John) #59

Her friend wants to take her shopping when she hits her goal weight. She hates going shopping. Therefore, the threat of that “reward” is enough to make her want to never achieve her goal weight, so that her friend will never make good on the promise (threat) to take her shopping… I assume it is meant jokingly.

(Ellen) #60

Hi, asking for clarity isn’t rude  I originally meant this thread to be a bit of light hearted banter, as although I loathe clothes shopping and really not looking forward to it, it’s not actually enough to stop me being keto.
