I was looking at the the site’s FAQ page, went to my profile, and suddenly my user name is a string of numbers and my avatar was replaced by the number six. Also, my posting history is gone. My username was meltar. Please help.
What happened to my user name and avatar?

This happened to me too, I tried to look at my new badges, and pop! I’m a numbered account. This has happened several times.
I’m not having difficulty to log out and log in again.

MooBoom has it right. This happens if you accidentally click the “Enter Anonymous Mode” button under your avatar (see pic):
Click that again, and you should go back to normal. You’ll know if you’re in anonymous mode if the icon is a 
sign.

I’ve been away from the forums for 5 mths and just accidentally switched myself to private- AND was mystified why my profile disappeared, even though I answered your question way back in Nov’17!
