What do your cravings mean?

craving

I started keto in October and this week was the first time I’ve eaten eggs or steak since starting this woe. I’ve been craving them which is strange because I don’t really like eggs and I don’t really get excited about steak. I know these foods are staples in the keto diet and I’ve just come around to them.

Since starting this woe I realize that my cravings often mean something. I crave bacon or gravy when I need salt. I crave carbs when I have a lot of inflammation and pain. I crave HWC when I need some fat. I wonder what eggs and steak mean…?

Hmmm depending on your Macros that is protein packed so maybe your protein hasn’t been high enough.

I crave steak when I need iron, I think. I have bone marrow cancer and before I was initially diagnosed I found myself eating almost rare steaks and craving bones. I’d get fried chicken breasts and toss the meat and eat the bones. It turned out that I was extremely anemic. Once that was sorted, I didn’t like beef at all and rarely ate bones. Two weeks ago I picked up my second steak in 6 months and it was so good I got one a few days later, which was also so good. I also just found I’m at the low end of RBC’s on my labs.

I don’t know if it’s true, but for me, that’s when I crave them. Are you someone who bleeds heavily during her period and could this be happening around your cycle?

Yeah that makes sense. I used to be severely anemic to the point I was getting iron IVs regularly. I don’t remember craving meat but I chewed ice like it was an obsession.

No thank goodness. I have enough issues lol!

Do you think you could be anemic again? Any other signs?

I thought chewing ice and peeling bottle labels were associated with the same thing? :joy::joy:

That’s a whole other topic…

I don’t think so because I get blood work done pretty regularly.

That’s good. I look forward to learning about what you figure out!
