What do you think of this coworker?

I’ll chime in with my own thoughts later, but want to see what you think. I was trying to think of her background but I don’t know her very well, and in the end none of that really matters.

She has lost approx 20 lbs by eating keto. Says she loves it and will never go back to how she ate before. Looks amazing too. EVERY day she brings in cakes, cookies, pies, muffins, donuts, danish, SOMETHING for the rest of us. None of it appeals to me anymore but I can’t help but wonder why she does this.

Love to hear your thoughts as I’m just not going to approach her about it.

Insecure about her job and other co-workers opinion of her, so tries to buy that security???

(Casey Crisler) #3

Maybe she’s emptying out her cupboards and would rather use it than throw it away.

(Michelle) #4

Maybe she used to buy that stuff compulsively and consume it at home; hasn’t broken the compulsion to buy it, just the compulsion to eat it.

#5

My advisor used to do this back when she was on a low-carb diet. She lost about 150 pounds, and every week she’d bring baked goods for all of us. I never understood it. Maybe wanting to eat it vicariously by watching her students?

(KetoQ) #6

Well, I have six boxes of “healthy” cereal at my office desk, and I’m more than happy to let whoever wants it to have it.

Knowing what I know now, I would not bring in those garbage goodies for others. However, I might make an exception for a birthday, special occasion or business meeting.

IMHO, if she’s doing it to empty her kitchen of all that garbage, it’s totally rude and inconsiderate. Then I look in the mirror and remember I gave a bunch of high carb stuff to the food bank and most of my beer to my friend. He wouldn’t take it all so I’m stuck with the rest to give away.

#8

Is that something that she’s always done? If not maybe trying to fatten up the competition!

(Doug) #9

Nelle, it’s amazing to me - how in the heck can she resist eating some of it?

Holy Crow… Kudos, Casey, that was mighty serious of you. Amazed, once again. (I would have just drank it all.)

I don’t know if this is something she has always done or not. I’ve only worked there a few months. She’s definitely not emptying her kitchen, it’s new carbage from Dunks, Panera, Sbux, and Tim Horton’s when she goes to Canada. So my question really is, if you think this stuff is unhealthy enough for you to not eat, why are you pushing it on coworkers? Oh, we are in healthcare, notorious for bad food.

My thoughts are she’s gone beyond passive aggression to full blown all out aggression. Queen of the hive, I can keep away from this poison but you can’t so have at it. I’m over it, but then I hear someone else say “oh isn’t that nice, look what SuzieQ brought in!” Everyone knows she eats keto and I just don’t get how this is thought of as nice.

The difference in health and size of the young nurses vs those my age is stunning. I’m probably the only one who thinks of it, but if the younger ones did they would probably think it’s inevitable, and it’s not. But having someone who’s been on both sides of the battle supplying the carbage is mystifying.

(Erica Ramirez) #11

I would say she’s living vicariously. Maybe she even smells them LOL
You should ask her though. Politely of course and I’d love to know how she answers!

(Alec) #12

Psychopath

#13

Has she noticed that you’re not partaking? Maybe you could quietly bring in keto treats one day for a contrast she’s bound to notice.

(Kerin ) #14

That’s my thought too!

(Katie the Quiche Scoffing Stick Ninja ) #15

How interesting.
It’s hard to tell without knowing her personality.
Is she well liked? Does she have many friends in the office?
Does she get a lot of gratitude for the items she brings in?

My opinion can go either of two ways -
She is not well liked, and uses food to ‘buy’ people, knowing full well they will eat sh!t and thank her for it.
She IS well liked, does not want to push her lifestyle onto people, and brings in what she thinks you will eat? Why she does it is a good question though, and for that you need to understand her motivation.

(less is more, more or less) #16

This sounds like a Keto version of Breaking Bad.
