What do you call a person?

(Juanita Rice) #1

who is 8 ounces from goal weight? You call that person at goal. I reached my goal weight of 150 today at 150.8lbs. I lost 20lbs on CICO and 15lbs on keto. My starting weight was around 186lbs, maybe a little more since I was only weighing at doctor appts. I started CICO in June 2021 and switched to keto October 2021.

Congratulations!

How would you compare your experience of CICO vs Keto?

Any words of wisdom for those who are thinking about following in your footsteps?

Hi everyone and thank you. With CICO I struggled because I was still eating sweets and other starchy carbs, which caused me to crave and struggle with my appetite, but I kept on counting calories until my blood sugar started skyrocketing. Once I switch to keto my weight loss journey was so much easier because with the sugar gone the cravings went away. Exercise also helped me a lot. I only do 30 minutes of low impact aerobics Mon thru Fri and 20 minutes of low impact step aerobics Sat and Sun. I gave up all alcohol which always blew me up like the goodyear blimp. Keto is sustainable for me so I will KCKO and any more weight I lose from here on out will just be icing on the cake so to speak. I am 5’6" by the way.

@Juanita_Rice Wonderful - thanks for sharing! Your comparison sounds very similar to what I’ve heard from others over the years.

Congratulations on your accomplishments - especially during those difficult CICO diet days.

Keto sure makes “dieting” easier … since you get to eat as much as you want of all that healthy stuff. Keto “Way of Eating” is a much better description than a diet, right?

Well, having shared your current exercise routine I thought you might be interested in a study concluding that 30-45 minutes of daily cardio is a fairly time-consuming and inefficient way to get the same benefits that are available for a LOT less time and effort.

There are a number of studies supporting this view, but here’s one I highlighted for you from the Journal of Physiology:

HIIT-MetabolicResults.pdf (549.9 KB)

For decades I jogged about 2 miles every day to “stay in shape” spending at least 45 minutes from start to finish. Yet studies show that the metabolic and aerobic benefits are the same if you only do cardio 3-times a week for only 10 minutes - during which you go “full out” as fast as you can for just 20 seconds, in 3 brief bursts interspersed within those 10 minutes. The rest of the time (within that 10 minutes of total exercise) you just going at an easy “cooling down” pace.

Doing the math: you get the same results for a total of 1/2 hour a week (3 days x 10 minutes) versus 30-45 minutes a day (3-5 hours/week)?

So I had to try it myself. Two years later, I can attest that I feel as aerobically fit while spending a whole lot less time (and less pounding) on my aging frame. I switched to elliptical from treadmill which makes it safer and easier to control those 3 brief 20 second “sprints.”

Something to explore. :vulcan_salute:

Congrats on reaching your goal.

Maintaining is the really tricky part. But you can do it. There is a subforum for support during maintenance. Check it out here: https://www.ketogenicforums.com/c/progress/maintenance

Hi have you thought about changing your name to something with fewer carbs in it? Bacon might do it, or Rosbif.
