What Breaks a Fast? by Amy Berger

#1

Another helpful video from Amy in which she mentions/links a great blog post written by esteemed former forum member @Juice  Blog post can be found here https://cross.com.au/2019/06/14/could-we-please-stop-telling-people-that-fasting-is-the-solution-to-everything/

Great video! I skipped some but heard the most important parts, lol

It is an interesting video, I like her. She is direct and easy to understand and keeps your attention =).

(Bunny) #4

I don’t call it fasting it’s called eating too much all the time…lol

I like Amy a lot and I liked the video too. Thanks for sharing Safi. I was sort of bummed when she used the remaining 20 minutes to promote Keto products. Not that they can’t be useful for some people and she has the right to make money for her time, but I was surprised.

I will admit I skipped that bit. I do agree that these products have their uses & if Amy is spruiking it it’s probably one of the better ones :slightly_smiling_face:

She does say that the products are made by a family that are her friends; and that they are all Ketoers themselves and that she is promoting them because she is helping her friends and she feels that they have a good product that she uses herself and stands behind it as being a good Keto product. She said she likes supporting a small family business and that she does a lot of free things; and is only mentioning and promoting their product to help and support them, and that she figured some of her viewers might be interested in using it for on the go Keto or for loved ones that prefer using this sort of meal (like elderly relatives). My mom is 91 and lives off of Ensure only now; so I understand her saying that.

I have no intention in buying the products that she is promoting, but I understand her perspective on why she did it as well.

Just have a standing policy to ignore anyone who is promoting products and/or fails to provide a link or listing to the published study demonstrating their claim.

That’s your prerogative but Amy Berger is really very good & has some fantastic, detailed articles available here http://www.tuitnutrition.com/ . I’d hate for you to miss out - she’s one of the best in the ketosphere :slightly_smiling_face:

The family she’s talking about is local to me here in Utah. She’s right that they are a great family and very supportive of the low carb/ Keto community here. They promoted their first small low carb conference here in Salt Lake City in April and put the content of the talks online, for free, very quickly.

I’m using the products now myself and trying to work out if they’re a good fit for me. And… I still found her speal uncomfortable. But I’ve found her blog content incredibly informative, useful and competently written (easy to understand and digest).

You really don’t want your mom living off Ensure, unless you can’t afford anything else. That stuff is complete garbage.

At least Amy has a reasonable approach to everything, unlike this:

If you’re fasting for autophagy, everything but water and salt will probably break your fast.

https://idmprogram.com/idm-round-up-august-30-2019/

Fasting and autophagy, like everything else, is a continuum. If you drink coffee and tea (only), I can’t see how that will stop autophagy. Reduce it, maybe, but stop it, no.

This is the kind of misinformation that I think is ridiculous.

I cannot control anything my mom does, I haven’t seen her since July and I only talk to her on the phone. My brother is in charge of her and him and I don’t speak, are not on good terms… it is complicated and not a good situation. He lives with her and he doesn’t want me there, and the last time I was there he treated me so badly and I was a nervous wreck when I left. When I speak to her on the phone, he is listening on the other end, I only call so she knows I am calling basically. She has alzheimers and calls me her sisters name most of the time as well, but it makes me feel better that I am calling her.

That does not sound like a great situation. Good luck.

Thank you =-). My parents polarized us, (we were adopted; different birth parents, I was 6 weeks, he was 4 weeks) I was always daddy’s girl, he was mommy’s sucky baby (and still is) and when my dad passed away pretty quickly in November 2003, my brother took over her finances and life, and mostly cut me, hubby and my 5 kids away from her. He has always just mooched off my parents all of his life, and continues to do that now, in a very expensive luxury apt with her (as he sold the house) and he is drinking/smoking/smoking up all of my dad’s hard earned life savings. I am not happy about it, but I focus on the fact that I have been happily married for 29 years, and have 5 great kids, and 2 grand kids and more to come in future years, and they are what counts and my family =).

There is no point in dwelling on the other circumstances, it is sad and upsetting but I have learned to accept it and it is what it is.

Honestly, I’m not as bummed about her promoting the product as I was about how long she did it. I saw that she was going to talk for 50 minutes but she spent the last 20 minutes on the products which didn’t interest me. I was simply disappointed that the fasting stuff was finished.

Me too - It’s not often she does the longer vids & I was enjoying it :slightly_smiling_face:

Exactly!
