Welcome back

Sorry about the downtime for the past week - totally my bad. We’ve had mail problems for the past 7 months with our mail service provider that we finally resolved last week. Then the forum tried to run all 15 million queued tasks (yes literally 15 million) that had built up over 7 months … and it spontaneously crawled away into a corner to cry itself to sleep.

So in forum news - we have mail again. People can get their passwords sent to them by mail again. The forum is running smoothly again. It’s even running fast for the first time in years, but I’m not sure if that is just because after the week of downtime no one is on it, or if this is the new normal.

Either way I’m planning for the future. The current forum is in a rube goldberg state after being moved from container to container that eventually it’ll become speed constrained again. So over the next few months I’m going to build a brand new forum from scratch on a brand new computer and migrate all the users and posts over to it. Net effect should be that no one notices except that it never slows down or goes off line again.

Why am i doing this? Well as you may know social media sites like Facebook are cracking down on content on their services to remove conspiracy groups, and other obvious bad players. But along with that they are starting to de-platform groups talking about alternate nutrition - including those that are supported by the scientific literature. All it takes is for the dietitians association in whatever country you are in to complain about your group and it could be taken down - EVEN if everything they complain about is supported by the evidence, and every claim they make is not.

So I am building an ARK of sorts to keep a place online where people can discuss evidence based nutrition information. So to that end we’ll be adding new groups in the community category for groups that may have their primary activity on Facebook but want a backup strategy. Each group will be managed by a group admin and in some cases they will be the only ones creating new posts in that group, though everyone can see and reply to those posts. The entire forum will still be managed by forum admins

This is going to mean a slight transition away from the Ketogenic forums being entirely a 2 keto dudes place, and maybe you’ll meet people from different communities who disagree with everything we’ve ever said and are willing to bring scientific literature to support that view - which I think would be awesome.

So anyway as we transition the forum away from being just for 2KD listeners @carl and I will have a forum in the community section for 2 Keto Dudes stuff and be just another community. Oh and we’re about to start podcasting again … so there is that too.

I am back as well, after a long hiatus! I have a lot of messages to go through. @richard and I will shortly publish a new 2KetoDudes podcast featuring RECIPES by @CarrieBrown, @richard, and myself. Stay tuned!!!

I appreciate your support for science minded free speech. Looking forward to your forums being bigger than FB, YT and Twitter.

I don’t. We don’t have enough patreons to fund that kind of expansion.

@richard & @carl Can’t begin to thank you enough for creating a place like this for a community to grow and thrive. The information exchange has been amazing - and life-changing for so many of us.

You two are the dudes. :vulcan_salute:

That is great news!

I’m looking forward to updates on everyone, and particularly whether Carl ever got back his smell after covid. Read that that can take a while sometimes. And being without smell…for a foodie…gah!

Would like to see if a KetoFest is in the works, too. Went to the science part of the inaugural one, but then had conflicts with every other one after that. Still have my shirt…though I painted in it, and now it’s relegated to the “paint pile”. Do have a pristine “keep calm, keto on” shirt, though.
