Weight stall

(John Hally) #1

Hi everyone my name is Johnny, I am 39 years old and I have been on keto for six weeks. I do feel great I eat less and I have lost between 10 and 15 pounds. I know I haven’t been on the diet extremely long but I did hit a weight loss stall. I haven’t lost a pound in three weeks. I like the diet but I still need to lose 15 pounds and I am doing everything right, I just don’t understand. I stay under 20 g of carbs a day. Can any Buddy out there give me some advice and maybe some motivation to stay the course. Is this normal? Again, I know I am a newbie but I just wanted to see what you guys think.
Thanks.

How is your inch loss?
There’s a bunch more that you could tell us - timing of meals, etc - but since weight loss and fat loss don’t always track together, I find it’s first helpful to figure out if you’re actually in a fat loss stall in the first place.

In any case if you feel great and you’ve already lost almost half of what you want to lose, congrats! You probably just need to KCKO.

Please list out everything you have consumed over the past three days.

It is still early days for you. But when you eat is as important as what you eat. Are you eating in a window? Are you still snacking? No snacking. Are you drinking alcohol regularly? Also there’s a stall category you can look through.

Sometimes our bodies want to take care of other things internally at the cellular and/or hormonal level that does not reflect in weight loss. The best thing to do is keep calm and keto on (KCKO). You should be in it for a lifetime so no need to rush and drop weight. Your body is smart and will take care of you if you take care of you.

Thanks

It’s important not to deliberately limit calories, as that causes the body to reduce its metabolic rate to compensate, but rather to eat fat to satiety, which convinces the body that there is an abundance of energy and that it’s safe to burn its stored fat. If you eat fat to satiety, your calorie count will take care of itself. Be aware that if your body decides to put on lean muscle tissue, your weight may not change, even though you are still losing fat mass. But because muscle is much denser than fat, you will, in such a case, find that your waist size continues to shrink. That is more significant than your scale weight.

Also be aware that the closer you get to your ideal weight and body composition, the more slowly the weight tends to come off. Here is where intermittent and extended fasting can be of use to you.

I’ve been stalled for about 6 months… but my body composition had changed, central adiposity has reduced, muscle increased and huge improvements in all of my blood markers.

Around 30kg down with about 15 more to lose to get to a healthy, muscular body weight, but not too worried… it’ll happen when it happens.

First you need to figure out if it is really a stall, are you doing everything on this diet with precision? and even so sometimes it is part of the process since weight loss is not linear. I found this to be a good explanation for some. http://blog.ketoshop.com/2018/03/10/how-to-break-a-stall-on-a-ketogenic-diet/

I wish we had a word for this! In the period that your weight has stayed the same, you’ve lost fat, which is of course the point. Many folks who are in this situation are upset about it, and you sound good -
but it seems to me that it’s not a “stall” if you’re losing fat!
