Weight loss stalled

#1

Hi all. Regularly registering between 0.5 to 1.5 daily. Usually around 1.0mmol of blood ketones. Im struggling to get this higher but also my weight loss has stopped entirely for about 3 months. Just plateaued now. Any advice?

Also what do yoy think of a 5 day week cycle of going 9pm through to 5pm black coffee only fast then eating 5pm to9pm ? Is this the worst thing i could do or decent IF?

I think IF is probably a good idea now. Also a re-evaluation of what you’re eating is in order. Amounts, and possible stall foods might be the issue. How about a listing of a sample day of your food with amounts? And a bit more about yourself, age, weight, goals, exercise habits, medical issues and medications. Your ketone levels are just fine and in the range of dietary ketosis. Don’t chase numbers. There’s no extra weight loss advantage at higher ketones than you are presenting now. :cowboy_hat_face:

A typical day is coffee with soya milk 0 carb or double cream 1.6g carb per 100ml

Lunch is generally chicken wings or bacon ribs from tesco hot counters.

I eat a bit of cheese in the evenings usually cheddar or stilton. Ill eat olives, almonds, pecans but just picking at these really. Sometimes I’ll eat a bowl of mixed berries with cream and sweetener.

I have sweeteners all day, quite a bit to, do these have a negative impact?

Well, you are stalled so you need to change something, right?

I chose to cut out all sweeteners when I started this, 9 months ago. To completely eradicate the sweet taste sensation, so I would not continue to want that sweet taste, which might lead me to temptations to have “just one” whatever.

That is something you can try. Give up artificial sweeteners for a month. See if that helps.

If you are going to break a stall, you have to try different things, and give the changes time to see if there is any effect. So that’s one thing.

Artificial sweeteners although they may be zero carb don’t spike blood sugar but they do cause an insulin release into the blood. This halts weight loss until the insulin levels drop. If you’re drinking coffee with sweeteners all day you aren’t giving your insulin production a break. This can actually cause weight gain in spite of all the marketing of non sugar sweeteners being more healthy. If you must consume them do it with meals where an insulin response is normal. The longer you keep insulin low the more weight you will loose. I would also cut out the berries and sweetened cream for the time being. It’s my feeling this should be an occasional treat and not on a regular basis. Nuts can also be a weight stall culprit if you’re eating too many. Also cream if you’re using a lot. It’s time to play with what you are eating, if you’re going for IF drinking coffee with soy or cream is not going to work. That counts as eating and kills the fasting window. Black coffee, plain tea or water is all you should drink during fasting.
It’s also best to have as many hours pass as possible after eating before sleep. This will keep insulin low while you sleep.

This is great advice especially around the insulin response. I didnt know that and yes i drink tea and coffee with sweetner all day long so ill drop it for the black coffee.

I think cutting out or greatly reducing the artificial sweeteners, like @David_Stilley suggests, will give your body a greater opportunity to burn fat. In addition, I recommend meals featuring a fatty protein and minimizing dairy and nuts since these are so easy to overeat in excess. By lowering my dairy and nuts, I was able to eat a little more fatty protein and still reduce my daily calorie intake by 300 (not that we should count calories) and hunger was not an issue. When you eat, eat to mean it. Picking at food and eating out of bordem or opportunity isn’t going to help you lose weight. Keep your insulin at baseline as much and as long as possible, eating larger meals if necessary.
