I miss bananas, my cinnamon dolce latte at Starbucks, and ordering pizza so I don’t have to cook after a long day at work. But I love that I’ve lost 20 lbs, feel better in every way, and am learning to have a healthier relationship with food.
Week 3, and
TizzAngie,
My experience has been that the longer I am living the keto lifestyle the less I miss my old carbage cravings. (Ice Cream and Rice Krispie Treats were my weakness). I have been keto for a little over 6 months now. I am down 49 lbs. and to a certain extent running on auto-pilot. If you haven’t already started listening to the #2ketodudes podcast I would encourage you to do so. There are two big benefits in my opinion: 1) When you learn and understand the science behind the ketogenic diet/lifestyle you will find it easier to maintain it until it becomes second nature. 2) listening to some of the podcast every day helps you maintain your resolve to stick with keto because your hearing keto thoughts and it keeps you conscious and mindful about keeping calm and keto’ing on.
You got this TizzAngie!!! Keep Calm and Keto On!
Losing 20 pounds in the first 3 weeks for a woman is amazing, we usually lost a bit slower then the males, which is annoying and not fair IMO! but seems to be the case.
Welcome to the forum, and keep up the great work, and the cravings will dissipate soon enough… I was a sugar and carb nut before. I love my Keto Fat bombs still, but they are encouraged! and delicious =).
Not only do I no longer grieve the loss of potatoes, rice, sugary things and fresh baked bakery foods in my life, I find those things no longer taste the same. The longer I went without them, the more my taste buds woke up. Now, the only time my palate will do its happy dance is when I’m eating ribeyes, scallops or ribs.
It’s okay to miss them but try to remember and enjoy all the tasty foods you get to eat and the benefits you are and will enjoy over the long haul.
It’s true the cravings will go away over time and you will have new favorite that not only taste as good or better but have the benefit of not making you sick and at a higher risk of chronic diseases.
I love that I can eat fried whole eggs with bacon with no guilt or worries and have all the ribeye or Porter house I can afford and know I’m eating a healthy diet.
The keto recipes are amazing and I can find substitutes for anything pretty much if I want. I save so much money not eating out especially fast food that I can spend more on healthier food (like steak😄).
It’s totally worth every thing I’ve given up!
Congrats on the good start!
Keep in mind that the 20 pounds in 3 weeks is probably 3 to 6 pounds of fat and 14 to 17 pounds of “water weight”.
The reason I’m pointing this out is so that you can prepare mentally for the week when you lose zero pounds (or even gain a little).
Whenever anyone has an initial big change down on the scale - the concern is that they will want that pace to continue.
You want to avoid simply giving up - figuring that Keto doesn’t work anymore - as well as avoiding caloric restriction - trying to maintain the high pace of weight loss.
I think there is a “mental game” component to Keto during fat adaption / induction / Keto flu / water weight changes / sweet desire decline etc. and many things can mess you up but, a major one is big scale changes creating unrealistic expectations.
Arghhh
I miss a lot of things, too, however, the difference now is that I don’t feel like an addict who has no control over the compulsion to eat inappropriately or binge anymore. Pizza was my all-time favorite food. Went to a graduation party last night and all they had was pizza. Didn’t call to me whatsoever. Tons of delicious munchies all over, but wasn’t tempted by them either. Only thing I got into was nuts, and it was hard to stop. Can’t keep those in the house because I will binge on them. I knew better than to start with them last night, but I thought I could just have a handful.
