Web Sites about the Ketogenic Diet, good or bad

Look what I found, a mostly positive article about the Ketogenic diet

A few “alternative” facts. But, a good start for web md. Was surprised at the positive spin on some slides. Usually keto is completely demonized as fad diet.

Exactly… it just surprised me that it wasn’t just demonized.

“Then you’ll start to break down protein and fat for energy, which can make you lose weight. This is called ketosis.”

Well…close, I suppose. Except for the whole breaking down protein part (and notice they mention that before fat). So perhaps a subtle scare tactic?

“This may be because it takes more calories to change fat into energy than it does to change carbs into energy. It’s also possible that a high-fat, high-protein diet satisfies you more, so you eat less, but that hasn’t been proved yet.”

Batting zero on that one, but not surprising that the first statement assumes a CICO model.

As @Fiorella says, not bad for WebMD, but that’s not a very high bar when it comes to diet advice.

Do you notice how, when they talk about a low fat diet, there are never any negatives mentioned? You know… like the constant hunger, dry skin, potential for fat-soluble vitamin deficiency.

But when they talk about low-carb, if they’re not unremittingly negative, then they make a big thing about the potential dangers.

Guess what? The standard diet is not just potentially dangerous, it’s actually damaging…

“Low-carb diets seem to help keep your blood sugar lower and more predictable than other diets.”

Really? Wow, who’d have thought that putting less sugar in would mean there was less sugar there?

Oh, wait a minute… they hypothesised that putting less FAT in would mean less fat there… and we know that’s not true.
