Weakness and numbness Guillan-Barre

So my husband has been doing dr bergs keto fasting for almost 5 weeks. Yesterday his legs felt like jello and he felt unsteady. Walking up stairs was not normal. Today he woke to worse legs and numbness and tingling in his arms and hands. By afternoon his feet were tingly too. We went to ER. We read a bunch on line and knew to have his bloodwork checked for all his vitamins and such. It all came back good. Note… He just went through 2 Days of 23 hour fasting each. So due to the symptoms and the good lab work they don’t think it’s his diet and are treating him for Guillane Barré Syndrome. He just came back from a spinal tap.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? This is a serious condition and will be at least 5 days in the hospital. Any insight in appreciated.

Other than jello legs and tingling legs and feet were their any other symptoms?

Yes, Unsteady walking, numbness in feet and hands, no reflexes, weakness in his hands and legs.

My wife’s cousin had GBS, and was in hospital for several weeks, but made a full recovery. Hang in there.

We don’t really know what triggers GBS. It’s usually put down as a post-viral reaction. Hoping all goes well for him

I have had tingling and numbness for about 5 days. I keep thinking it will go away. I took potassium-magnesium supplement. I drank a gatorade Zero, I just licked some salt. Nothing. I ate spinach and avocado. Major tingles in the AM and in the PM. But my body hums all day long.

I am going to eat some regular sugar/ chocolate to see what happens. Someone suggested it in another thread. Be right back. If the sugar does not work, I am going to the doctors tomorrow.

Well the candy helped but I am still tingling. Feels like my arms are asleep. I also read that it could be a vitamin B1 deficiency. Anyway it’s a scary feeling.

Will update this later when i figure it out

I’m having the exact issues and my blood work was fine. My legs are so heavy and I am definitely not steady on my feet. It’s really concerning.

I had very similar issues and went to ER and I was super low on calcium.

You won’t maintain much calcium, potassium, or magnesium without sufficient sodium.

It’s an easy experiment and shouldn’t hurt to take some supplements of these minerals every few hours for a day and see if it helps.

I experienced this too (the tingly thing in the fingers and feet and the walking thing), all the symptoms match but was never diagnosed with anything, how strange? I like to supplement with nutritional yeast and brewers yeast and wheat grass powder to take care of any extra vitamin supplementation esp. B complex deficiencies (meaning your not absorbing it in the gut) which can cause similar symptoms.

I suspect it can most likely come from under cooked poultry or contact with infected animals?

Guillain-Barre syndrome may be triggered by:

  • Most commonly, infection with campylobacter, a type of bacteria often found in undercooked poultry
  • Influenza virus
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Epstein-Barr virus
  • Zika virus
  • Hepatitis A, B, C and E
  • HIV, the virus that causes AIDS
  • Mycoplasma pneumonia
  • Surgery
  • Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Rarely, influenza vaccinations or childhood vaccinations. …More
