Definitely one of the perks!
We have too much of the wrong kind of food on our farm!
Don_Q, no, I’m not limiting calories at all. Simply not wanting to eat too much protein. My personal protein limit is between 40-60 g/day, depending on what I’m doing. I mostly eyeball, weigh stuff occasionally. I use cronometer to keep track of what I eat most days. It works for me!
How exactly have you determined your daily protein requirement? The numbers you quote seem very low. The official RDA is intended to avoid deficiency not optimize health.
amwassil, I started my keto journey after reading 2 of Dr. Mercola’s books, as well as several others. I don’t give the USDA’s food guidelines or RDA standards much attention. I have a science background, and find that the reasons for limiting protein to 40-60 grams per day make sense to me, especially for inflammation. My fibromyalgia symptoms are rapidly disappearing, and my arthritis is better, too, after only 7 weeks on keto.
You are Ilana then, she’s on this forum and found 40-60g best for her. Any more and she has problems. If you experienced the same (or you are sure about it due to your science background) then you do it right to keep it low. I still don’t know why broth made with a huge amount of meat is needed, a little meat can produce pretty much, it won’t have as much nutrients but we don’t need gallons of richer broth to get those. But it’s good you wrote numbers, I did nothing about goose eggs and wasn’t sure if your idea is based on some super low recommendation or you really need a low number. 40-60g isn’t extremely low, it’s indeed ideal for some people. So I trust you on this.
But I am not very familiar with this topic, being on (almost) vegetarian keto/low-carb until recently. Maybe look up the PKD thread, Ilana is there a lot and that style has a 2:1 fat:protein ratio with only 400g meat+fat so protein is low, fat is high. They have a very restricted diet for therapeutic reasons but even if you and me don’t need that, we can still learn from them when we do some fattier, carnivore or almost carnivore diet. I eat eggs myself and my body never complained on my frequent 120-150g protein days but I still want to avoid a clearly unnecessarily high intake. So I eat more fat now and they can show how it is possible (and I do my own way with egg yolks but I get tips at least). 2:1 fat:protein ratio sounded crazy to me before, it’s different now.
