Water weight

(Carrie) #1

Hi, I’ve twice started keto, then fallen off the wagon on holidays. I’ve done well with it, both times I lost apx 7lbs of water weight at the start.
Lost a stone in total.
I’m back on it, 10 days in, and only lost 1lb? The keto sticks have been showing pink since day 3
Any reason why this hasn’t happened this time?
I do have a cold…

I am wondering if you are taking medications for the cold? Many have sugar in them and that could cause trouble.

Are you sure you are following Keto strictly with no sugar, max 20 grams carbs, getting enough protein and fats? and water? Maybe if you tell us more info about what you are eating, etc will help more to give advice =)

Thanks Susan
I’ve started it off with mostly bacon and eggs every day for breakfast, creamy coffee, or scrambled eggs with butter.
Lunch, some roast chicken and broccoli, or a pork chop, or some mince with spinach. Then mostly cut out dinner just had some frozen berries with Greek yoghurt, Thanks for your help, I’ve normall lost about 7lbs in water by now, don’t know what’s different.
Sinutab/ lemsip maybe???

It is a strange thing but meds can really mess up weight loss, I have noticed this with myself as well.

You seem to be eating well, as long as the yoghurt is sugar free. Sometimes even artificial sweeteners can mess us up for losing weight. I found this, so I am not using any atm. I made new Fat Bombs for a treat, with no sweeteners at all.

I don’t know if you have ever tried Fasting, but for many of us, that seems to really help. If I don’t lose any weight for a while, I always try a 24 hour or longer Fast, where you only drink water, and plain tea/green tea/herbal tea or plain coffee. I don’t know if this is something you are ready for yet, but it does seem to help many people.

Thank you, yes I think I might give that a try. To be honest I think having a cold straight after starting keto hasn’t helped, migraines and feeling generally low.
I guess I’ll wait til I feel a bit better to do a fast. Thanks for the advice

I have heard from others on this forum that stopping and restarting keto brought slower results when they got back to it, I would really strongly recommend that you quit the berries and yoghurt, try eating two good meals of protein and some veggies in a 16/8 IF if you can and avoid snacking at all . Shoot for eating enough to get you through till the next mealtime. And try to stay with us, there are lots of smart strategies for getting through holidays.

Thank you! Great advice.
I’m going to leave off the berries and yoghurt. Both you and Susan have suggested a fast of some kind, I’m going to do that when I feel a bit better, this cold is dragging on, headaches everyday, it started after a few days of keto, combined with keto flu it’s no fun. But I’m still in ketosis so that’s good, just need to keep blowing my nose and avoid the lemsip! Then I’ll do a fast. Thanks for your help
I just thought it was odd not losing any water weight initially, maybe it’s cos I’ve not been well
Thank you for your help

Can I ask your option on double/heavy cream? I drink a lot in coffee, and put it on meat. Is too much cream a staller?

Thanks

Not an expert but I would think it helps with the keto side of things but it likely depends on total caloric daily intake. At 100 calories per serving, if you are doubling up and having multiple coffees a day, that alone would have added 400 calories to your day. That’s a huge chunk of the total calories a person of average build/exercise/activity would likely want, I would think. For example, if you’re targeting 1,500 total calories for the day and are consuming 400 of them just in coffee, are you sure that you aren’t going over 1,100 with your meals/snacks/drinks?

Just an idea -

It can be, yes. Lots of people here either severely limit or eliminate dairy because they find it stalls them. Normally, this isn’t a problem for people in the earlier stages of weight loss on keto but if you are having a lot it might very well be.

I’m a creamy coffee girl myself and it will absolutely stall me or even make me gain weight in excess.

Thanks everyone!

I use Silk Cashew Milk, unsweetened, in morning coffee (with a bit of vanilla flavoured MCT powder)…no dairy in it.
