Water intake. What to do?

Is there a water amount recommendation on keto? You always hear about drinking 8 glasses per day. I have neglected this kn keto massively. Hardly drinking anything but coffee. Could I speed up benefits by drinking greater amounts of water?

Very possibly. I tend to have a pint glass of water on my desk at all times when I’m at work and make sure to drink some between coffees as I’ve noticed I feel worse without it.

I am not a huge fan of water (it’s all I drink, however), and it can be difficult to drink as much as I would like, especially now that I am retired (seemed to be easier at work because I had a very large container on my desk and would make myself finish it by the end of the day).

At any rate, I find it helpful to chug two glasses (16 oz. each) of tepid water shortly after I get up. I am thirsty then and it’s not that hard to do. Right there that is 32 oz. and I am well on the way to where I want to be for the day (I like to aim for 70-80 oz.).

I like this article at Paleo Leap

Unless deranged by something, we have a built-in mechanism to deal with this. Drink when you’re thirsty, don’t when you’re not. My personal trigger is my mouth starts to get dry. Then I drink only enough to deal with that, usually a mouthful or two swallowed slowly. As the article linked by @OldDog indicates, drinking to some specific amount every day doesn’t make any sense and risks ‘overhydration’. That’s apparently a thing. We need to drink more water on keto only because our kidneys are now functioning normally and we’re no longer retaining water attached to glucose and glycogen.
