Water Fasting Issue

I’ve been reading about people breaking out during keto. My face is clearer & has a glow that I get compliments on a lot since water fasting. So I need help with something a little different. My last water fast had a very curious outcome. I had a painful bump growing on my back that started itching. At 1st I thought that maybe my bra was rubbing & irritating my skin. Had my bf look at it & he saw it was a blackhead. After tending to it & bandaging it up the pain & itchiness eased up but didn’t totally go away. A couple of days later, the pain & itchiness came back. This time in a different area. Has anyone ever had that happen? I read somewhere that it’s the toxins leaving your body when that happens. Do you think that’s true?

Yes. Drink plenty of water.

I sometimes get cystic acne on my neck and jaw when fasting. Always just assumed it’s detox.

I haven’t seen it mentioned here, but in other fasting circles, it is recognized that the die -off of bacterial load can produce an inflammatory response to the bacterial byproducts. This ‘healing response’ is called the Herxheimer Reaction. You can google Jarisch–Herxheimer reaction. It’s a recognized thing that bacteria produce an endotoxin especially when they die off. Basically wait it out, it goes away. Or see the doctor if it gets bad.
Fasting is tough on our natural body bacteria who rely on a steady stream of sugar or other foods. When the food is not there, they can die of in large numbers. Usually this would be worse on initial fasts and improve on subsequent fasts.

Thanks for the info. I had heard about the detoxing but never really explained like u put it. So again thanks so very much for giving me another research outlet. I was starting to feel weird when I hadn’t seen anyone else on hee talk about it. I wasnt going to ask bcuz of that.

I try very hard to get in a lot of water everyday but sometimes I 4get. I think I’m gonna set a timer to drink.

Great idea. Small amounts often is best. Set your timer and have a few mouthfuls every 30mins. I don’t have enough water and often just swig down 12oz at a time. I feel it in my lips when dehydrated.

It seems to happen whenever I fast longer than 24 hours then just goes away on its own after a few days.

I was thinking more on the lines of every hour doing 10-16 Oz. I did it years ago (not water fasting but bcuz I was told I needed to drink an ounce per body weight in addition to eating). It worked but I don’t EVER wanna do that anymore.

This didn’t happen on my 1st water fast. So that’s why it surprised me on my 2nd. Unless I just didn’t notice it.

If your pee is light yellow you’re drinking enough. If your pee is very light yellow or clear, you’re drinking more than you need, and basically just wasting electrolytes. If your pee is dark yellow or even starting to get a l a little brownish, you’re dehydrated.

Drink to thirst, and if your pee is dark yellow you should start considering working in more water. Personally, I tend to drink more water than normal when fasting, and have to make myself tone it down a little bit.

@SporkyDonkey Thanks. I’m in the light range but less than 64 oz some days. I drank more when I had lemon juice added. I also drank more while eating keto. Things that make ya go hmmm:thinking:
