Wasted ketones?

#1

I’m about 5 months in, and am “fat-adapted”.

I have been checking my morning ketone levels for awhile; and they are most often around 0.4 range, sometimes a bit higher. My blood sugar lately has been running about 80+ at the same time. I usually eat dinner about 630pm and then nothing after that.

Last night I had to work late. I ate dinner about the same time but I couldn’t get my usual fat macros in. When I got home around 1030- I ate 5 “Fat Bombs” (homemade chocolate truffles). I was only a slight bit hungry; but I had made them the night before and wanted to try them; and they were better than I thought they would be.

Anyway, when I tested this morning; my ketones were 2.3mmol/L. I rarely get readings that high, and don’t recall ever getting readings that high in the morning. My BS was 72.

My question is- Is it possible or likely that the fat bombs were absorbed shortly after I went to bed and then bc I am fat adapted they were converted to ketones; but bc I was only sleeping they were not utilized and just continued to float in my blood and would probably go out in my urine? Or is it more likely- just a weird or “off-reading”? Or perhaps another explanation, that I’m not thinking of?

It is an experiment that I wouldn’t mind repeating; but I’m curious to see if anyone else could explain this.

Thanks!

Yep, that’s about it. Expensive pee. That’s why those following a strict CKD or TKD that is restricting calories severely often don’t always test pink on the strips. When I was doing it, I have to test specifically at one time per day, about three hours after my one meal to get a reaction. It didn’t really matter, I was still in lipolysis.

Yup. The infamous ever so useless “Peetosis”

Lol!

Thanks for the replies!

(What The Fast?!) #5

Here’s my experience: I always had super low ketones until I started fasting. The longer I fast, the higher my ketones. I check both blood and urine and am always above 2 or 3 when fasting longer than 24 hours. If I stuck to food like bacon and eggs, I generally stay up pretty high. Before this, I’d stay is pretty low nutritional ketosis and fell out quickly. With fasting, I find I can get a way with a few more carbs and not be as cautious with counting and my ketones remain. YMMV.
