Warning! Carbage!

Ah, the beloved work potluck. Not. At least someone brought pickle wraps. Even the meatballs were covered in sugary sauce. I just sat and enjoyed my leftover steak and 3 strips of bacon. Then went to get a coffee with heavy cream.

(Carol Hawkins) #2

well it looks like there’s some cauliflower and broccoli to nosh on at least

(AnnaLeeThal) #3

Yep! I did not, however, because I’m working on going Zero Carb. Can’t resist the pickle wraps though!!

What are pickle wraps???

Oh, and I like how some person thoughtfully brought diet soda! LOL!!!

(AnnaLeeThal) #5

Slice of deli meat slathered with cream cheese wrapped around a pickle spear. You can also do this with a green onion.

lmao experienced this last night! Went to a cookie trade, my wife and i brought some almond flour sugar cookies and a full-on cheesecake (both with erythritol). Got there and luckily they made some steak kabbobs but besides that is was cakes and cookies and chips and sauces. I just chilled out with a piece of cheesecake, some kabbobs and a good shot of Bourbon lmao and today, I feel great!

For real. Like I’m siting there noshing on my bacon and steak feeling so not deprived. As time goes on it gets easier to resist and not want the carbage. I know if I have a sugar or carb craving to get some more fat in me so that stuff doesn’t seem tempting.

The place I was working earlier this year was big on celebrations, almost all involving food. So whether it was a Christmas party, valentine’s day (make your own cookie bar, with shortbread cookies, thick gloppy icing a color of pink not found in nature, and various sprinkles), or the first day of every month being “fruit” day with baskets of fruit (mostly high-carb, but some berries), and energy bars (sugar-laden, natch), it was all a minefield for low-carb. Definitely times when I had to avoid the kitchens to keep my sanity.

The story of my workplace!!
Celebrating anything? Donuts!! Bagels!! Cookies and cakes!! I couldn’t escape it!!
Everyday someone would be announcing there’s “carbage” in the break room! Go got some!
Nope and nope!
It’s a running joke now to announce it to my partner in the room and then ask me. I think there’s a competition to see what’s going to break me!

You should start a pool in which everyone whose date for when you break passes pays you. Good incentive to KCKO!

Good idea!!
Another day of sweets and cookies… I’m happily munching on cheese and pepperoni instead

I passed by my office’s “Treat Cubie” yesterday, and it was packed full of all the stuff people didn’t want at their house anymore. I love how these things are not tempting to me anymore. Yeah, this stuff would taste good, but not as good as the leftover brisket at my house.

This ^^^

And over time, it doesn’t even taste good any more. I used to really crave Cinnabons, for example, and would occasionally indulge while traveling. Until the last time I finally realized that the idea of a Cinnabon was more enticing than the reality which was actually kind of crappy. Not to mention the inevitable aftereffects.

There was a flap yesterday about a tweet that Cinnabon posted about Carrie Fisher’s death (not bringing it up for the politics), and what it made me realize is that I no longer crave Cinnabons at all.

As I’ve mentioned in other threads…it takes time, but eventually our bodies’ desires can be reprogrammed.

Truth!

That is one thing about the Keto lifestyle that folks find hard to believe - that I with relative ease I am not tempted by the parade of carbs :sunglasses::+1:

(Jessica K) #15

Well kudos for not giving in! There’s a positive

(Arlene) #16

I hope, hope, hope there will come a time when I don’t have to worry about the occasional slip up. Having yo yo’d for the last 45 years, my confidence in my “stayability”, even with the ease of eating a ketogenic diet is just not there anymore. Some days I don’t feel deprived of “fun” foods. Other times, like the holidays I just can’t muster up enough will power to avoid having some fun, for a change. Of course if I give in to the urge, I usually stay on that destructive path for weeks/months till I hate my body fat more than I love the fun foods. Seriously, what is wrong with this picture. Is there any way to get out of this destructive pattern permanently? I don’t have cravings, but my mind remembers the taste. Ugh

Same here most of the time. They bring fruit bowl, tons of desserts, so and so’s recipe of nanner pudin’, you name it. It can be tough.

Thankfully though our Christmas party every year is at a nice steak house… I got a 20oz ribeye. I laughed to myself when I saw everyone’s eyes widen as I slathered butter all over it and my asparagus and proceeded to eat ever last bite. All while they got to enjoy their lean white fish, rolls, and dry looking baked taters… :sunglasses:
