Warm clothes feeling warm, cool clothes feeling cool - which causes more energy burn? thanks

I’ve been pondering on this for a while now that the colder weather is here… Does dressing in warm clothes and feeling warm, with warm hands, warm feet, warm ears and nose, cause increased metabolic rate thus burning more energy? Chemistry runs faster when temperature increases and more cells are warmer in this situation. Or does stripping off the heavy clothes and feeling cool with cold hands, feet, ears and nose cause the body to burn more to maintain core temperature? The extremities are cooled in this situation and therefore I assume the chemistry slows down in those cells.
