Hi there, just wanted to check if my experience I had on Saturday night was normal. I’ve been pretty strict keto for about 6 weeks, and then on Saturday night I was out with some friends. I ended up drinking about 4 glasses of prosecco, and we went out for dinner where I made a point of not eating the dumplings, rice, pasta, that kind of thing, and just stuck to meat and veggies (although there’s a chance there was maybe some sugar in the sauces etc.) That night when I got home I felt uncomfortably full, as if I’d eaten a massive meal when I’d only actually eaten a little bit. Then I woke up at 1.30am and had to run to the bathroom to throw up. Just wondered if this is normal, and if it will happen every time I have carbs/sugar?
Vomiting after carbs
Most people find they are a lot less alcohol tolerant on keto so I’d lay most of the blame on the prosecco. It’ not unusual to react badly to carbs after cutting them out for a while but I don’t think vomiting is the norm.
Vomiting was the only reaction other than that really uncomfortably full feeling. Once I threw up I felt way better.
That happens to me when I go off sugar and eat low carb and then eat sugar in the evening, I will vomit violently and then have a bad aftertaste for a few days. I’ve never known anyone who had that problem. I obviously am very sensitive to sugars.
That happened to me when I first became fat adapted and decided to cheat for the night, granted I had also drank alcohol and also threw up. The next time I did the carbs without the alcohol, I still felt sick.
From my drinking days I remember that eating pasta and stuff like that beforehand was recommended to stop you getting drunk too quickly.
These days I’m OK with a can of beer occasionally, two cans I can feel myself as being slightly drunk.
Exact same thing happened to me tonight! I’ve also been on strict keto for a bit over a month with great success however, tonight I had two alcoholic seltzers and one bite of cake for a celebration. I became horribly I’ll within the hour; exhausted , nauseated, it was awful…
After 3yr keto/carnivore.
I’m down to 2 glases of alcohol. If I dare drink more I’ll be very sick for a few hours.
1 beer make me drunk.
Lost the tolerance for alcohol together with the weight.
Dont mind it. After all its a poison.
Interesting. I drank 2 small glasses of dry white wine a few months ago and immediately turned into a maudlin weepy person. Gave up wine after that…friend I called disbelieved I had only had 2 glasses of wine.
It’s probably the alcohol, it’s known that alcohol tolerance tend to go down very seriously on keto. I don’t have much experience as I simply don’t drink much (never a whole beer or a shot of spirit) since I first went keto… But I do feel something after my super tiny drink sometimes so I can imagine a bigger amount would cause problems. But it’s cool that I need less alcohol to feel it I just have problems to drink that amount, I am content with 10-20ml whisky or 20-100ml beer… (I probably have a problem. No sane person drinks alcohol like this. It started with keto as I drank my old fav 20% sugar wine on it… And I could afford only a few carbs for booze…)
Be careful with alcohol. Carbs often cause problems but different ones, vomiting when you didn’t even consume much carbs or calories at all? Highly unlikely.
yup that nice baby buzz without the heartache added to it when those of us go too far…hangover on zc, nope, wont and can’t go there, enjoy a tad if wanted, yup. Who knew there were such true body controls to it all LOL off the ick lifestyle of eating junk we learn alot about ourselves!
Finally someone thinks the same. People usually consider it great if they can consume huge amount of alcohol without being drunk. I would be very sorry for my body. I drink for the taste but some soft effect is welcomed and the easier it comes, the better It’s not long lived for me either but it’s logical.
I never had hangover except in my very early days when I had no idea what I was doing and epically overdid everything… I have no regrets, I had to do that once But I drank very rarely and not excessively afterwards, always feeling when I should stop.
