I’m new to the keto diet. I’ve been doing this since June 18 and have seen some results as well as experienced keto flu many times. My question is this, should I continue my multi vitamin? I take the one from the vitaman shopper for men. Also I feel very angry at times, is that normal? I do drive a semi all day but I get to come home. 12-14 days with very little to no physical exercise . So I’m also taken some herbs for stress. Any words of wisdom. BTW I’m doing keto to lose weight and feel better.
Vitamins while on keto
Welcome to the forums, Paul.
Vitamins are fine. Herbs shouldn’t be a problem either. What you want to watch is your electrolytes. Search for Brenda’s keto aide on the forum search bar, for the recipe.
Not sure about the anger, eating this way has helped me stay more calm, so I can keto on
If you are not eating fatty meats, you might be lacking in B12, that can cause mood issues for some.
Thanks for the reply. Ya it’s been hit and miss for me but I’m learning that I need to up my salt and fat. I will look that up now.
I looked it up and I was wondering I’m already taken 500 mg of magnesium and 99 mg of potassium. Do you think the extra magnesium will have advers effect on my :).
Electrolyte imbalance can cause mood issues (magnesium and potassium in particular).
I had a multivitamin once or twice a week, but not every day due to the fact that the daily recommendations are based off of carb fueled peeps, and our fat burning bodies typically have different needs and need less vitamins. Taking it everyday won’t hurt… but I reduce it just to reduce costs a bit.
Several threads here have talked about using caution with potassium supplementation because it is in a lot of low carb foods. I know that 500 mg of magnesium isn’t enough for me, but there is a lot of differences in how much of it you need. You really have to just keep upping it til you get an unwanted result. I can do over a gram per day and be fine, my DH could not do that much as all.
Many take some magnesium before going to sleep, it supposedly relaxes you and you sleep better. I need it for the other effects it has, keeps things moving smoothly in my body.
Interesting. The bottle tells me two a day but I only take one because I forget the other one. Thanks for the input
I think my potassium is 99mg, so you saying I could up that? As for the magnesium, I figured I would have to play around with that. Thanks for your reply
I was saying up the magnesium.
Sodium and your diet takes care of potassium. It is in lots of foods for this WOE, leaf greens are full of it.
Here is some good info on Potassium and how much is in our foods.
You mean bowel? Is there any other unwanted result?
I do not need it for that purpose, is it still desireable?
OP,
I find in terms of mood (after 3 months of keto) that there was something I was worried about in my personal life and keto made it easier to worry less and be calmer. However I do have moments when I will go "off " on my friends more. Mostly people I feel very comfortable with. I find I am more direct and more inclined to tell them when they have done something to upset or annoy me. The first week I was definitely in a mood but that only lasted a short time
