Very low blood ketones

(Keto Mom) #1

Started eating keto one month ago. I am not cheating and I am doing very very well with staying on top of my macros. I even increased my calories and lost weight a little better with intermittent fasting. Although my glucose levels are wonderful before (high 70s) and after eating (90s), my key tones rarely get above 0.3 or 0.4.

I’m taking my supplements, staying on my macros and I am losing weight. I lost 14 pounds. The last 4 pounds were maybe in the last few weeks. 0.5 is supposed to be my lowest to guarantee that I am in ketosis. I know that they say if you been doing this for a while that your Keytone levels may be low but I have not. Although I did have my gallbladder removed earlier this year. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I don’t feel bad anymore (keto flu) unless I’ve been intermittent fasting a little too long that day, usually by accident because I just got busy and was running around and didn’t have enough quick food to eat like zero or low carb beef sticks… I just want to make sure I’m on the right track If being in ketosis will help me to lose weight better I want to figure out what I’m doing. I do have dairy most days but not much artificial sugar. Although I have that too.

Check your ketones at the end of the intermittent fast

Don’t worry about your ketone levels unless there’s a problem. If your goal is weight loss then anything above 0.1 is good and that’s just to make sure you’re not accidentally eating carbs anyway. You don’t need to be in ketosis to lose weight and you won’t lose weight faster just by being in deep ketosis. It may be easier to lose weight, but it could also be harder if it’s hard to get into deep ketosis.

If you stop losing weight or start feeling bad, then that is when you start looking for things to do different. Until then don’t worry about it.

Great response!

I agree with you. I guess I’m also looking at all the health benefits of being in Ketosis. I don’t want to miss those. And exogenous ketones are really expensive to keep up with long term.

But I’m extremely grateful for the weight loss.

Sometimes I am 0.5 afterward. Sometimes I’m still 0.4.
