This is very fascinating to watch. It’s done by a guy that used to be a big time power lifter and does diets for professional strong men. There are a few gold nuggets of information in it. Might even be a workable version of this for a keto person who is hard core athlete.
Vertical Diet
Definitely gonna watch this once my kid passes out, this is for getting tons of food/protein in without screwing up your digestion right?
I’m a dork, meant to send that as pm to @lfod14
You get a chance to watch that? I am totally considering trying to transition to it from Keto. I don’t know how it would work because I can’t afford the sirloin or bison, prob just ground beef to do it.
I just like the idea being able to do the low carb version of vertical, with the medicial usage of juice to increase metabolism. Because I do think my metabolism and energy in general slowed while on keto for the last 4 years.
Nervous though, cause keto works as a lifestyle for me. To switch to a unknown diet whereas it has some carbs could blow me up.
Yeah, took a couple tries but got it in! I like it, I’ve watched a bunch of stuff with Stan but it was usually him on other peoples vids! Granted I think a lot of my metabolism slow down was fasting, I also think a lot of it was keto itself, I’ve read/heard a bunch of times about fructose and metabolic rate but always ignored it being keto minded but seems to have some truth to it.
I was REAL cautious on slowly coming off keto, although what I do now is pretty much LCHF with carbs around workouts all the things that (used) to happen when I ate carbs just don’t happen anymore. I think a lot of it was slowly introducing them over the last year and getting what most of us would call metabolic flexibility. My gym performance is 1000x better now than it was on strict keto. Hate saying it but there’s just no comparing them. I defended putting on muscle for years without carbs and I clearly forget what it was like on the other side of things. I’ve made more strength gains in the last 6mo than I have in the last 3yrs before I tweaked stuff. His monster mash sounds awesome, planning on that being lunch tomorrow.
my A1c’s are still around 6.0 so I have been afraid to up my carbs since I am T2 diabetic. I’ll listen to the video since I don’t see any negative remarks on it. I do love my walks, and the gym work-outs, but I’ve wondered about building more muscle than I have over just a 6 month period with strict Keto.
I’ve been trying a TKD for a while now, which is where I eat carbs mainly after my workout, the first meal after it. I have been able to stay producing ketones, and might feel a bit better after eating some carbs. I might also have slight larger (“filled up”) muscles after eating higher carb.
But I can’t tell much difference in terms of body weight training. I have gotten a bit stronger, but I got a lot stronger too eating keto. The vast majority of people 90+% will gain muscle mass slowly, no matter what they eat.
When I was 16-22, I lifted a lot (biked too), and it took me forever just to bench 315, and I did that once. It took YEARS. There are people gain muscle mass fast, but I’m not one of those.
And I still have a torn muscle in my left shoulder, so I have to lift so that I do not re-injure that. And so many other former injuries, that I have to lift so I don’t re-injure them either.
So, I’d say that a TKD in the way I’ve been practicing it does seem to make me feel a bit better that day, might make my muscles “fuller”, but is not a magical elixir for muscle growth, at least for me.
That’s interesting info Bob. I just did a 30 minute walk with my pup and then ate my highest carb meal of the day, Two Good Yogurt, blueberries and walnuts. Do you test your ketones, or BG with your TKD program? And how long after your meal?
