Vendor Poison Coming Down the Hall

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #1

Today in the hallway I saw two vendors coming to bribe one of the teams in my building with a big box of carbs. I wonder if they know that they are bearing gifts of poison. I myself have no desire for any carb and especially carb in a box. Because you know the carb in a box will be wheat omething covered in sugar.

At least they didn’t leave it on your desk like they did the last time I was back in my home base office in Ft Worth!!!

I took it to the break room, carrying it like it was toxic waste :rofl:

I’m a nurse who worked at Tripler (in Hawaii) for a few years. They used to have weekly Krispy Kreme fund raisers. They would ship in cases from the Big Island or Kauai (or wherever) and sell them for $10/box and make THOUSANDS of dollars in one morning. It was super lucrative. And here I am up on the 6th floor giving insulin shots to peopl with ESRD and advanced type II diabetes. I always remarked how hypocritical it seemed - or particularly clever; keeping the “customers” coming, right?

My husband I were just talking about this. Our whole family is keto now and we know all about the issues caused by consuming sugary carbs. When he installs new equipment at a factory (yes, he’s a vendor) he brings the obligatory box of donuts. It’s tradition and what’s expected. He doesn’t feel the need to tell people how or what to eat, just as he would ignore any such advice given to him. Kind of like damned if you do, damned if you don’t. So what’s the right thing to do?

When I was put in charge of the health and wellness program at work years ago, the first thing I looked at was the table of donuts served at every safety meeting to the hourly folks getting off nights.

I wasn’t about to take away their precious donuts! But I did add fruit (heh - thought that was healthy at the time!!! :rofl:) as an option. At first it was barely touched but over time more and more opted for it instead of the donuts.

Unfortunately, I can’t think of something keto-friendly your husband can just pick up on the way to the job site to offer in addition to the donuts as an alternative.

It’s like the dentist who gives lollipops to the kids, right? :man_facepalming: :scream:

Give them bacon instead!! :bacon::bacon:

Years ago, I would make a tray of my famous baklava, and he’d take that. I might have to do something like that again but with keto chocolate cupcakes! They’re sugar-free, gluten-free and delicious. You’d never know they only have 2 net carbs :blush:. Honestly, they don’t take much time to prepare. Need to think outside the donut box!

Keto cheescake is another alternative, but don’t stint on the sweetener. I made a cheesecake to take to Easter dinner at a friend’s house, and everyone thought it wasn’t sweet enough. Sugar burners! :wink:

Hmmm. Meat. My son had a pot luck at work a couple months ago and he asked me to make beef jerky for it. He said it was a big hit and the first thing to get devoured. I think meat might actually work. Thanks for the suggestion!! LOL This is great.

Those words now give me the willies!!! Ugh. Yup, poison!!!

Yuppers… I made a keto pumpkin roll for Thanksgiving and those who tried it (all 4 of them, either low carb or keto eaters) loved it and want me to make it again and again. But most wouldn’t even try it. I shouldn’t have told them what it “really” was. LOL

LOL! My mother used to make these delicious sour cream cookies when I was a kid. She quickly learned that unless she called them simply “cream cookies,” my father and sister would refuse to eat them (more for me, yay!) But yeah, the first rule of making keto food . . . :grinning:

I ask you- why can’t there ever be ribeyes in the breakroom or as vendor gifts? I’d be all about that!
