How do you incorporate Vegemite in your day to day keto living?

(Michael - When reality fails to meet expectations, the problem is not reality.) #2

I don’t. I’m not impressed with the nutrients in exchange for the carb tax to get them.

Sometimes I mix some Marmite in hot water for a broth-like beverage.

Or spread a smidge on a slice of cheese.

Vegemite and butter on warm 90-second keto bread, or a chaffle, is bloody delicious!

Vegemite is another one of those industrial processing left overs that a “food” company looks at and thinks, Now, I wonder if we can feed that to people?

(Texan ) #6

You are so right, but that doesn’t bother me or millions of other people.

:+1:t4:

And then we have those for whom “Keto doesn’t work”.

I don’t even know what it is!!! Of course, I live in Indiana…:smirk:

Keto works for me and I like some Vegemite or Marmite, depending on what I can get where I am. It has a strong flavor, a little goes a long way.

30g carb per 100g, so 3g per 10g. The MOST I would use is one Tbsp in water. Usually far less. It has a nice umami flavor. If you’d rather use your carb allowance elsewhere, great! You do that! But for someone who likes some as a treat, fine!

One portion is 8g, so less than 3g carbs for 76% of daily recommended amout of B12, and a goodly amount of the other Bs. Depending on how many carbs you tolerate and your needs and tastes, it is fine. Maybe even good.

But if it isn’t for you, I’m not going to argue with you about that.

Is it similar to Nutritional Yeast?

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #12

I don’t know. My good VPN is down now so I’m using a back up super slow VPN. The idea of searching for nutritional yeast nutritional values is exhausting enough to keep me from doing so.

Good job Big Brother, you’ve prevented me from searching for the nutritional value of nutritional yeast. I hope you are happy.

I did end up looking it up…it (vegemite) does come from Brewers Yeast…interesting!!

Vegemite and Marmite are by products of the brewing industry. Its been around for quite a few decades. It is very low in carbs, spread it on chaffles. Discovered in 1902!
You either love it or hate it…

#15

I am in-between
But as I’ve read, some people manage to love one and dislike the other… I never could try Vegemite but we always have Marmite in the house (since about 2 years when we first tried it), my SO loves it. I taste it sometimes but I need several months to consume a teaspoon of it… I find it very pretty though, glazed over butter…

I don’t know why it matters that it’s an industrial leftover. Nutrition, taste, being harmless or not, these things matter. There are lots of nice byproducts for sure.
I drink alcohol too and that’s clearly a toxin. But my body easily handles it and it’s worth it very much.
