My hub and I had a great first day on keto vacation. Omelets and bacon for breakfast. Almonds for snack. Alcohol with low/no carbs. Prime rib dinner with veggies. Not even tempted to stray as of today! Feeling good!
Vacation eating
Congrats! Such a good feeling. Isn’t it?
I’m one of those weird people who eats much better on vacation because I’m out of my normal home environment with some of the junk my family eats. The hotel room is a controllable metabolic ward, so to speak. Heck, I kicked off my current journey in Disney World and came back in deep ketosis from the good eating and 10 mile daily walks.
Last night I thought chocolate mousse could not be that bad but it was. It didn’t even look like chocolate mousse. But I ate it and was sick today. Serves me right. Finally when I could eat we were able to get a poutine deconstructed. Everything but the bread and it was delicious. No more infractions. Not worth it and I can usually get something tasty without the carbs. My body just can’t handle sugar or wheat. End of story. Happy to be back on keto track!
Delicious charcuterie and locale cheese plate. Dry rose wine to wash it down. Cashews for snack. Salad with chicken at lunch. Fasted until lunch. 2 thin 1/2inch slices of French bread slathered in the most delicious butter I have ever tasted. Not too bad. Rita ketoing on in Canada.
Just got back from a week in Aruba with my friend and her daughter. We have a time share for the same week every year. It’s nice because among other things, it has a full kitchen.
We all went to the grocery store the day after we got there and stocked up. In years past (passed?), I used to spend a small fortune on pop, juice, bagels, bread, chips, cookies, and all kinds of processed junk. That is what we ate - anything and everything, and as much as we wanted. I might make goulash once or something like that, but other than that, I didn’t cook - it was just sandwiches and junk, anytime of day or evening.
This year, I only spent $58 total for the week and food is more expensive there. I bought a large pork steak and some hamburger and made four dinners out of that. Never really thought of buying meat there before this year. Another night I had egg and olive salad and a beautiful romaine salad. Kept hard boiled eggs in the fridge, gouda cheese and bacon for a quick pick-me-up, otherwise, it was OMAD. Only went off once when I got two fruity drinks, which were just "meh," and I would have much preferred a glass of brut champagne. Ate out three times and only had a loaded salad each time.
I can tell by my clothes that I have lost weight - effortlessly. And this year, it didn’t suck to be in a bathing suit. I wasn’t self conscious or embarrassed. I was completely mobile and didn’t hobble and shuffle along like the infirm person I used to be.
Love keto; it has been such a gift. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me long term and with relatively little effort or sacrifice. Food is a joy to consume and so satisfying but not the focus of my life anymore. I am by no means perfect and I may stumble at some point in the future, but today I am grateful for all the good days.
Wow, I was surprised to see this thread picked up! So cool that you found keto/LCHF and made it work for you! Since that vacation in 2017 I have also found success with this way of living. I’ve had my ups and downs but finally realized that carry foods just make me sick and it’s much easier to say no to them. All the podcasts and social media help keep me motivated. I too had a long vacation in 2018 and did not gain weight. That was a a real eye opener!
