Using Reply button

(karen) #1

Mods feel free to move this …

Sometimes when I reply to someone else’s post, even though I use the reply button under the post and not the purple general thread reply button on the bottom, the indicator with the person’s icon doesn’t show up. Does this mean the process didn’t work? If I delete my post and do it a second time, the expected arrow/icon appears.

Oh, also, I’m kinda OCD, I tend to edit a lot. Does every edit I make show up in someone’s inbox? :astonished:

I’ve noticed that too, but never thought to delete and repost. I just hope they can tell who I’m replying to.

#3

This is a reply to @Anniegirl9 without deleting and reposting

#4

And this one is after deleting and reposting

#5

No deletion this time. Testing to see if replies not immediately following the post reference the user

(karen) #6

dave, if it doesn’t work try me, I’m still online.

#7

No deletion in this reply to @kib

(karen) #8

ok yes, I’m seeing this in my responses window.

#9

Second no deletion test to @kib

(karen) #10

So I think our n=2 conclusion is that if replying to the last post in a thread the linking doesn’t show, but it still winds up in the person’s response window?

#11

Now deleting and reposting to @kib

#12

@kib - yes on user being notified. Random on whether user icon shows on reply.

#13

Glad I didn’t get that figured out

Yep. You don’t get the icon if you’re replying to the last person to post OR if it’s a reply to the original poster, since they get notified if everything posted anyway. If/when in doubt, just @kib them, or quote them:

I don’t think edits trigger notifications. They also don’t get a separate notice about deleted posts.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #15

That was my experience, until I turned e-mail notification off.
