Upset, angry & disgusted

Just seen a photo on facebook, my step niece (not even 18 months old) eating meringues, I actually want to get my step sister’s number to call & shout at her. WTF is she doing giving a toddler pure sugar? I’ll admit I don’t have kids (I’ve never wanted them nor do I even like them) so can’t really talk, but how can that be normal / right? Is it just me or is that just wrong?

Ellen FB causes so many family arguments, which is why I left it.
Saying nothing is strength, let your sister witness your results and when your with your niece offer her the healthy stuff.
I get no support from my family other than eye rolling, and snide comments. So now I say na da, and let the smaller size jeans speak for themselves.

We don’t talk, last time we did was 6 years ago after my step dad / her dad died (have never even met this child) we’ve never gotten along, but how can meringues be appropriate food for a baby?

(Bella) #4

I agree it is not.
But she might think again when the child is climbing the walls on a sugar high.
Maybe, your sister is struggling?
You obviously care a great deal for your niece.
I wish you all the best.

It’s an education thing, and all the messaging from the food authorities is counter-productive. Stuff that seems so obvious to the people on these forums is often stuff that never occurs to most others (or even maybe to ourselves 5 or 10 years ago). We can hope maybe it was a one-time “look how cute my baby is eating meringues” kind of thing. But sadly, I think most people won’t fear sugar until the authorities tell them they should.

My big gripe is seeing people give the baby juice in a sippy cup for cryin out loud!

school kids outside chicken shops :scream:

Read Gary Taube’s “The Case Against Sugar” and you will see why people think sugar is fine for children. It’s been a very disturbing read.

I’m estranged from my sister as well. There’s no point saying anything - if anything, due to your existing tension in your relationship, she may only drive further down the carb highway out of spite.
Lots of time to get the child into a healthy diet down the road, provided you’re able to gently wean your step-sister there over the years.

People are afraid of what they don’t understand. They backlash against this out of ignorance. In time Keto will go mainstream and be adopted (look at how gluten sensitivity has become so prevalent, and that’s only about 1.5% of the population it benefits???). Keto will benefit everyone. It’s just going to take time.

The unfortunate aspect is the people that are terminally ill due to their high carb diets. Hopefully a few of them are turned around before it’s too late! (hmm…is it cruel that I suddenly thought of the lemmings game?)

I have kids, they eat sugar, they are healthy and happy. Let her do her thing, it’s not worth getting upset over.

Just think of the reaction that a video of a toddler eating pork rinds and chip dip would cause…

(Garry (Canada)) #12

No worse than 90% of the crap in grocery stores that gets fed to children. (Cheerios/fruit wraps/pop tarts/etc)
Don’t lose sleep over it…

I witnessed a group of yuppy mums giving their kids seaweed thins recently - not sure how I feel about that
:astonished:

I loved Lemmings… spent many hours, no, days, wasting time trying to break through levels!! What a memory!:nerd_face:
