UPDATED Graph: Can we chat blood work especially Triglycerides, mine >500 any feedback welcome

I’ve been traveling since writing this and just now able to learn how to put my blood work into a pretty graph.

I just introduced myself in another thread, with my six week OMAD/KETO results so far.
I went on this diet because I really had to address my carb addiction, muffin top and am amazed how I can turn up my nose at a carb more easily now. However, I also am trying to address some really bad blood levels, that I am pretty shocked about.

It wasn’t until about 12 years ago at the age of 40 that I gained weight and started having abnormal lab results. I hardly ever partake in alcohol which seems to be the question asked of me when I share my Triglyceride results. I might have a drink or two a month.

Here they are, last year’s was above 500! My weight about this time was 172, I’m 5 foot 2, female.

Triglycerides a few years were tested more than once:

DATE TRIGLY CHDL LDL HDL A!C GLU
2/1/08 119 247 170 53 77
7/1/13 302 226 132 34 92
12/1/14 415 289 41 5.9 93
10/26/15 262 252 159 41 6.1 93
6/1/16 165 234 150 51 5.6 90
12/1/16 136 248 167 54 5.7 91
4/1/17 176 263 173 55 5.6 83
12/1/17 582 282 245 37 5.3 95
2/1/18 275 229 135 39 105
2/21/19 513 292 41 5.3 106

**** looking forward to my 02/2020 results that will be at 4 months IF/KETO

You might notice the huge difference in Triglycerides in 2016. In 12/2016 I had just finished up a 1,100 mile, completely walked on foot carrying a backpack with all my needs for those three months. I didn’t watch what I ate but obviously was walking for a good 8 hours a day in some tough conditions. Meals were typically French bread, sandwich meats, cheeses…My weight was 40 lbs less as well due to this.
It quickly was regained in 3-4 months.
My “real life” is “just a mom”, with spurts of long distance hiking for enjoyment with my kids about every 18 months. So you won’t find me on a magazine cover being a long distance hiker, I’m not, except on these occasional trips.

Any input that might not be mainstream to put my mind at ease.
My Dr did ask me to go on Omega before Statins but I didn’t want my results influenced by that so have chosen only this diet to see what my new work will look like, so I know if it is diet related or Omega related.

Thank you in advance,

I apologize , I thought I was putting that in a graph /chart/column, lined up pretty format and don’t know how to fix it.

What’s “omega”?

I would wait to see what your trigs are. They should go down while on low carb. Your HDL should also go up.

Thanks I just edited the table above.

Well done, Dudette! :+1::+1::+1:

Do you drink coffee? That raises trigs in some people.

Hi Bob,
Sorry just now able to reply.
The script here in the states that my Dr gave me (vs putting me on statins) is called Omega -3-Acid
Ethyl Esters Capsules, USP with instructions to take every evening two tabs before bedtime.
I really wanted to try diet vs taking these, though Omega can’t be bad for you I guess.
I just wanted to know what my natural body was capable of vs any influence from a bottle.
IF I don’t get my blood work under control by the last days of February (when my physical is), then I will consider taking the script.
I am up for any suggestions as I trust most of you guys than the medical profession…
You all have won me over!
Thank you in advance for any input!

I drink tons of coffee!!! Cups upon cups.
No sugar (even pre keto no sugar), prior to keto I drank whole milk with it only.
I had pre keto put a lot of milk in my coffee as I started drinking coffee at age 5 and seemed to
keep those habits.
Now that I am on Keto and drink it black over ice, and am satisfied with that surprisingly.

I never knew that! That just might be the reason then.
I drink so much coffee that if I travel and don’t have it readily available I get migraines.
When I came out of surgery once and had been NPO since midnight the night before I was going through major coffee with drawls with headaches.

Its my addiction, there is no doubt.
Alcohol way less than I want to admit.
I wish I had a vino a night…I’m lucky if I have a drink a month…usually that’s what people ask me.

Is this the same stuff you’re taking? This may be of interest to you.

There has been a lot of research in recent years that while actual fish seems to provide a host of benefits, ultra processed fish pills do not.

Try smoked herring, aka “sea bacon”. Even my kids love the stuff. It’s a really cheap and easy way to improve your omega 3:omega 6 ratio. You can find it near the tuna fish in the grocery store.

I hate to say this, but that might be your problem:

For me, this does not seem to be much of an issue. (Though I also “only” have one 16 ounce mug of coffee in the morning and one/two cups green tea in the morning and no more.) But you might be one of those people where it is an issue.

Having said that, not much if anything is known about people who eat low carb but have high trigs due to coffee consumption.

Don Q, It is! By the way new to the forum and today am fending off 5 kids while reading through your motivation thread, GREAT STUFF!!!

So I’m not taking that Omega, but have the bottle unopened in my closet. I really want to see what my body can do on its own… but a great read so I don’t open it if my blood work isn’t better in late February. I’m going to try the herring! I’ve bought some Sardines which I can tolerate just not crazy about them. Put me on a hike in Spain with Sangria and the way they make the sardines, and I’m happy though…

Thank you all for this wonderful community!
