UK Daily Mail & Dr. David Unwin

(Ian) #1

Nice to see a mainstream newspaper in the UK giving a lot of attention to the phenomenal work or the low carb advocate Dr. David Unwin, as follows:

The 7 rules to beat the bulge: NHS diabetes expert reveals his secrets to eating your way to a healthier life.

Low-carb meals for a longer life: He’s transforming NHS diabetes care, now Dr David Unwin has teamed up with chefs Giancarlo and Katie Caldesi to create super-healthy recipes especially for the Mail.

You can eat pizza and still be LOW CARB! Dr David Unwin reveals his mouth-watering recipes to help fight diabetes.

The mouth-watering breakfast recipes that can help you beat diabetes (including a low sugar bacon butty).

I love all the stories of ordinary people taking control of their lives, often going against conventional wisdom and curing themselves. I just wish the news outlets in Canada (and the US, Aus, etc) would also be as insightful.

Just watched an old movie called “Sister Kenny”, a true-ish story about an Australian woman who took a fresh look at treating polio victims. I’d seen the movie probably sixty years ago and forgotten all about it.
But on re-watching it, I reckon you could substitute Diabetes for Polio and change Sister Kenny for people like Dr Unwin, Gary Fettke, Prof. Tim Noakes, Dr Joseph Kraft …… and loads of others who have dared to buck the system.
Elizabeth Kenny ? Go on Just Google her…

My mother contracted polio shortly after Sister Kenny’s exercises had reached the United States. Mom was fortunate to benefit from them and was basically able to walk normally, apart from a small limp. She was always so grateful. She was still grateful, even after post-polio syndrome caught up with her towards the end of her life, because she considered it a fair trade-off for so many years of unimpeded activity.

I’m just amazed that the Daily Mail is the British paper that is promulgating keto and getting the science right. The Times simply seems oblivious, and the Guardian has wholeheartedly embraced the vegan agenda. Kudos to the editors of the Daily Mail.

The spooky thing is that Dr Unwin learnt most of this stuff from the forum at www.diabetes.co.uk.
he had a patient who was a forum member and put her T2 into remission he asked how and she explained which led him to join the forum.
On the third attempt (they thought he was a troll!) he was allowed to join and his new journey started… he was about to give up and retire as he was fed up with not being able to help his T2 patient…
He learnt it all from T2’s rather than a textbook.

That’s why he’s one of my heroes, he and Jen, actually. They had the good sense to listen to patients and go with what works, rather than parrot the party line.

I remember that story about him and the Web site. A few years ago, the organizer and he were speaking at a conference together, and she tells about thinking that no doctor could possibly be on their side. I’m glad he managed to convince her to let him stay, because the results have been fabulous for all of us.

They are really wonderful people… I’ve met them both couple of times at UK low carb events. Absolutely charming and very humble.

According Dr. Unwin’s twitter account, he’s up to 68 remissions of T2 diabetes in his practice, and was about to retire 6 years ago, until he started applying low carb in his practice.

Three cheers for Dr David Unwin!! He really does seem to be one of the good guys.

Steady on old chap, that’s a bit like saying " Yeah, well OK, the Nazis were pretty bad, but they built great autobahns and had better uniforms than our !"

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #10

Even total evil can slip up and do something good, you know. Just saying . . .

Ummm, no. It’s a bit like saying that one Nazi changed his mind and started saving folks rather than putting them into camps. [not that I’m comparing doctors to Nazis, obviously…I just couldn’t let that lousy analogy go unchallenged…]

(Ronald Weaver) #12

Ok, I’ll go along with that.
But have you read the Daily Mail recently ? It’s as bad as the Guardian !
The last decent paper I read was Mad Magazine.

(Ronald Weaver) #13

That’s very true. But if it’s the Daily Mail it’s totally by accident. Or maybe it’s a bit like when English football supporters were so outrageously bad, the Scotch football supporters decided to be exceptionally well behaved… purely to spite the English.

The saying goes "If it’s in The Daily Mail it must be true "! So … people will believe it!
In fact I did start a thread on this, and pointed out that this was due to the huge response to the last article a few months ago!
I love that he says it is a revolution led from the bottom up.

After a week of the Daily Mail featuring Dr David Unwin explaining the science, effectiveness and health benefits of a LCHF, we get the Daily Mail’s resident “Dr” coming out with this load of drivel!:rage::rage:

  1. Get in car.

  2. Motor to London.

  3. Find offices of Daily Mail.

  4. Have a —no, I can’t say it, even in jest. As a KF admin, I have to uphold our community guidelines.
