Triglycerides pre/before Keto 513! ...today 3 months in

(Niamh) #1

I discussed my Triglycerides with you all the day I joined this wonderful group.y should clarify the result was a year ago exactly, our insurance requires it. I didn’t go Keto till exactly three months ago.
Exactly a year ago mine was 513 and should be less than 150 evidently.
Today’s results were 169!!!

I’ve run high cholesterol for at least 12 years when I started keeping track.
My Cholesterol in 12 years has never been less than 226, todays, the highest 292 (today-288)
5 of 13 years my HDL was on the very very low side of normal.
My LDL has never been within normal results during this time.
My glucose has never been abnormal.
My A1C has never been abnormal (always in the 5’s every year).

Amazing! My total cholesterol went down 50 points after doing keto for 6 months. Amazing after eating red meat slathered in butter for 6 month, lol!

I’ve been Keto for 9 months. I never, ever deviate. This is one time my anxiety has worked in my favor because I’m afraid of mixing carbs and high fat. I had cholesterol fears in the back of my mind constantly because of the food I was eating. Turns out my cholesterol is not only good (213 total - I consider that good even though the guidelines say differently), my triglycerides are 62, and my VLDL is 12. I’m living proof that eating bacon grease is good for you. Sugar and starch will literally put you in a mart-cart. I’ve been at my goal weight of 130 for 6 straight months.

Michael, I have found you to be a wealth of information, thank you!
I put my numbers in and the results are awful…
Atherogenic “highest risk third”
Framingham offspring “Very High Risk”
Jeppesen risk “highest risk third”

I’m not certain I can wait till my Dr Westman appt in August. I might have to go on Statins.
Both of my parents are on them and are in their 80s and healthy…
I really have tried not to do this.

I’m celebrating the Triglycerides, but nothing else to celebrate (in the Cholesterol dept)
today
Cholesterol 288 (7.45)
LDL 216 (5.59)
HDL 38 (.98)
TG169 (1.91)

I suggest:
“I can be reached either through the comment sections on this site or via twitter @DaveKeto.”

Dave is a very knowledgeable fellow and seems very helpful when approached.

BTW, if you undertake Dave’s ‘protocol’ and retake your tests, you and your doctor will be astounded by your fast ‘recovery’. That may undermine his ‘demand’ for statins, or not. It’s worth a try.

Triglycerides divided by HDL- this scares me...I need blood work gurus and researchers input please

You should wait until you are at least 6 months into keto and then get your cholesterol tested again. It takes a while for you to get really efficient at burning fat. After about 6 months, blood levels are more stable. There are threads somewhere on the forum discussing just that.

Edit: Maybe this thread will help

Thank you Michael, Just now seeing this. I will contact him.
I love listening to his podcasts. I’m shocked that he has done such intense research in just a short period of time that is without a doubt convincing that the medical industry needs to shape up. My concern , in my case, is he concentrates on LDL when everything else looks good…
I’m going to reach out, thank you!!!
