Triglyceride issues

So i have always had very high triglycerides and thought i would start the Keto. So Jan 1st i did and after 10 days on Keto triglycerides went down to 134, very happy. 2 more weeks on the same Keto now at 265. Very despondent today, Anyone else have same issue? Lost 10lbs but don’t care about that, i’m only in this to sort the triglycerides out and stop taking the statins…

You need to give it time, especially as you’re losing weight. Gary Taubes talks about how when you’re losing body fat, you’re releasing the cholesterol that has been stored in your fat cells, which can give a “false” screening.

it took 4 months of keto before I was able to see some lowering in my tg.

But a significant lowering happened after quitting coffee.

the last 2 samples are after quitting coffee and the first sample in Nov 2017 was pre keto.

Sorry to hear it. Where you fasting during this time? Some one recently posted a table of their figures over a long period of time, when they fasted their trigs went up.

[Edit: I tried searching couldn’t find it, it’s on this forum and within last few days. Table with yellow highlighting…]

Hi Lloyd –

I had a heart attack 10 years ago. I’ve been doing low carb since May 2018. I feel that my cardiovascular health has greatly improved. I attribute that to a combination of a 60 lb weight loss, low carb eating and lots of walking and biking.

That said, my TG are down from 100 in Feb 2018 to 82 in Sept 2018. My HDL also improved from 35 to 40, along with my HBA1c from a pre diabetic level to a normal level of 5.1. However, my LDL went up to 101, it was lower, not sure what the figure was.

The point is, lots of markers improved with low carb eating.

However, there are lots of things that can affect a lipid panel. As some have already noted, coffee and fasting can skew those numbers higher.

Check out the Feldman Protocol https://cholesterolcode.com/extreme-cholesterol-drop-experiment/ to lower cholesterol.

Good luck,
Q

Arh, found it,

(Bob M I hope you don’t mind me “re-tweeting this”).

I’d not fast multiple (at least three) days prior to the test. Each lunch and dinner if you can. These are my values over time, started low carb 1/1/14. The highlighted in yellow are after 4.5 days fasting. The high trigs for the 10/31/16 occurred because I was fasting a lot before that test. Went on vacation, ate normally, and trigs plummeted. Note the variance you can get in one-two weeks.

Check out his graph, the one with yellow highlighting

Yes. The way I understand it is when you are in the process of losing fat, particularly during fasting, there’s a lot of fat on the highway. Your bloodwork doesn’t know whether the fat is on its way in or on its way out. Give it a few months and recheck. Our insurance allows a full panel every 6 months. I can’t wait til April to see how I’m doing.
