TreatyMeatyCarnivore December!

@Fangs you’re hot on my heels which are hopefully reversing course right now! Meet ya in the middle haha!

Happy Birthday! Have a nice day with yummy food, you and Bolt alike! Poor thing, let him have some lovely meals and cuddling and whatever he likes! (I just can’t separate you from Bolt now in my mind).

I ate a few homemade muffins in my life (made some too, hence my muffin mold, it’s good I can make carnivore dishes with it), sweet and savory alike but never had a cupcake.
Sometimes I wonder about buttercream (nope, too expensive for my unskilled hands. I wonder if one can do savory “icing”… there must be a way. I will experiment later) when I face all the decorative lil things (IDK the term, the thing that goes into the bag with frosting) I have… I only use the tiny hole one for my gingerbreads. By the way I start to have enough of decorating them (they are SO MANY and I use both sides for practice) and I will give away the powdered sugar I made Alvaro buy as I am physically unable to do such things since years, I just can’t suffer it. And it’s not even me who do the eating! I know the good icing recipe and its looks now and how tiny I need. I have one with mixed sweetener now. Mixed so even bigger chance for someone to have a problem with it but they can just look the things. I almost mastered icing dinosaur skeletons with it in the last few days. But my butterflies are neat too.

It’s not even 3:30pm so I am quite satiated still  Good as my pork chuck roast isn’t quite ready yet. But not raw at all so hungry me could eat it. Or fry a bit, that’s quicker.
Poor Red Leicester cheese started to dry out, I told Alvaro to eat it already. I am so very trained to avoid cheese that even when I need more food, I can’t bring myself to eat more than 5-15g… And that’s mostly the other cheese we have so I am not a big help. But I plan to make quiche tomorrow! We have 60-70g sour cream and zero cream so it will be a tiny one (well, 6 muffins I suppose). It’s good my quiche is eggier than normal (of course it is, it’s me).

Okay, I start to get hungry now… Yesterday was so odd, I had a long stomach/gut growling session. I totally felt it in my stomach this time, it’s already odd as I usually don’t feel anything about my stomach, it’s my other silent organ. My normal growling is 3 seconds and all is well. This lasted for a minute? And left my insides feeling odd :frowning: Oh well, not a big deal once or twice per life, it was merely interesting as I never had that before or don’t remember.
So now I wonder how it is with others. I suppose many have longer ones and way more easily as I know it bothers people horribly sometimes. And 3 seconds and then silence wouldn’t. And people have it super early! I need about 18 hours at least but I don’t have it every day on OMAD… I nearly never had it on 19/5 as 18 hour is exceptional. But a 24 hour fast has good chances. I don’t remember my longer ones.

@Fangs happy 61st birthday hope youve been having a super lovely day. So pleased to hear prayers are being answered with Bolt and he has perked up. Those burgers must have been amazing
@JJFiddle gotta say strange coloured sausages … they look amost blue!

Bad sleep last night but isnt that always the case with me when i have to set an early alarm!

Got up and blow me down there was frost on the ground! So glad i bubble wrappes the planters in time.
Meant to be 0° not -1° so i finally caved and put heating on to ensure pipes dont freeze. It is meant to drop to -3° through tonight so heating set to come back on while i am asleep for a few hours. Anyway managed to last to 7th december which aint too bad me thinks!

Had a bath and hair wash and dollied uo for dancing this afternoon, read book with coffee then picked Raymond up for his doctors appointment and afterwards sat with him at his house for a brew and chat till it was time to get off to pick my friend up for the tea dance. We had a very nice afternoon and i had a very good drive back until i reached about a mile and a half from home and hit a traffic jam which then took me 45mins to get through to my house!

Starving so had the last of the cheddar and the 2nd of the 2 rumps in the pack and it was as chewy as yesterdays  followed by 3 rashers of bacon, which looks more than 3 in the pic lol.

Tired now and just about ready for bed!
100 push ups completed.

Those were bratwurst sausages. I thought they’d be redder too. But they weren’t dry which was what I was worried about.

(Karen) #65

I love bratties. I guess it was more the way your phone displayed the colour as they are usually a kind of grey. Bratties never look red. I like the texture of them over the texture of dausages such as cumberland etc. Alrhough they arent reaaly cheap they remind me, in taste, of the chrapo pork sausages i buy. I prefer the cheap ones.

#66

Yeah, it was the phone, the white plate looks bluish too.

I strongly prefer red sausages but once I ate some wonderful white ones in Czechia. In a tiny village pub. That place had wonderful meats for not even a high price and I soooo envied the people there  They had an almost magical tiny pond in the forest too, I never saw such a picturesque one ever before. It added a lot that the trees started right away, there was no clearing as here…

Meanwhile I messed up my yesterday (it was so perfect until the evening and I got my protein and everything. I think I lacked calories) but I was a tad too happy with eating little I think and didn’t ensure I get stuffed properly so the evenings couldn’t pose a problem… But I don’t know how much food I actually need. But probably 1600 kcal should be met (and 130g protein to be safe but I may try less sometimes, IDK if OMAD is different). It’s not so easy at once on OMAD (it was always very easy on 2-3MAD but those were different, carbier times… but even on/near carnivore, 1500 kcal is easier when I have more meals. A very small eating window diminishes my mealsize, it was always the case and apparently it’s normal, no matter when I have my meal. it doesn’t get bigger just because I wait longer. it gets small if I eat early but I know and never do that).
So that was my problem even when I first tried OMAD. 2 meals easily trigger overeating, 3 usually ensure it but 1 gets too tiny. Well, I can have 2 meals 1 hour apart or use some tricky, charming and non-satiating dishes… It’s so weird that I need a very different attitude for OMAD but I talked about that before.

Today I plan to focus on my pork chuck roast. I couldn’t eat much of it yesterday, I had plenty of eggs (well no, only 7 now that I look at my day…) and some cheese though. So 120g protein wasn’t a problem though I needed a follow-up meal to get it. But still couldn’t get satiated for the rest of my day. I probably need more meat… But I didn’t desire it after I was almost full with my eggs and soup. Yeah, let’s blame the soup with its big volume. And it was nice chicken soup, it used to make me satiated as a kid and I could eat A TON but a single plate of chicken soup was all I could eat and then not even dessert as I was full. For a little while, probably but chicken soup still was magical (even with the carbs in it so it’s very odd). It lost this extreme effect but it’s still somewhat satiating. And I am no volume eater and a bowl is nothing to my stomach anyway.

I will get the hang of it for sure. My OMAD attempts already made some nice changes, I don’t focus on eating as much (I don’t want to lose interest in food though…). On food, sure, I bake and cook and plan…

So I had one bite of the most decadent Black Forest Cherry cupcake. Bad move. I craved on it. Triggered me but not for too long. I know me and what one bite I can have and have 0 issues and 0 effect and then I knew even before I did it this would nail me. But luckily, at this many years into zc I can not go down that road  But darn, WHY DID I buy the best of the best 6 little rat cupcakes that seemed decadent and delish for them? Cause I saw them and wanted them HAHA ME BAD LOL ugh. Just shows I am ‘far from cured’ of the brain too ya know but always work in progress but it didn’t nail me or screw me up, what that action gave me was MORE fortitude to NOT do it again. Tired of that hamster rollercoaster ya know :sunny:

So I then put in a chuck roast into my nice little dutch oven and into oven it went. Then I forgot about the damn thing. Yea damn near burnt it to heck and back but I gotta say, I do love burnt so I can still eat it. Won’t waste it. But damn ya know. Note to self, do what @Shinita told me to do, figure out how the timer works and use it HAHA too funny.

So today is eat leftover chuck roast and got burger for me and dog after that. All good in zc land.

Dog is holding fine. In fact seems to be gaining all kinds of strength?? I don’t know truly. I am gob smacked on this one with what the vet said and such bad bloodwork and all? I still will give it time to ‘see’ but he seems ‘truly ok’ right now. Time and then if still ok new vet, new eyes on him and take it from there? Honestly what a crazy road as this has been going down!! who knows at this point but kiddo is thru the roof happy!!

ZC strong everyone. Wonderful food pics on the board and great zc chat as usual amongst this fab group of zc friends  Rock on!!

Just finished some slow cooked venison osso bucco. The butcher was right, it was delicious.

Happy Birthday @Fangs !

Busy stuff here as it will be my father-in-law’s 90th and the family is gathering. My birthday tomorrow (Dec 9th). I think a steak with a candle appears on the log in for a day.

Yay for Bolt! I hope his little doggie body makes some borderline miracle, it surely happens sometimes and the vet doesn’t know everything (so many stories where their estimation was super off, along with doctors for humans)… Main thing that you love him, enjoy the time together, feed him good food and we will see  I am so glad he does better.

(Judy Thompson) #70

Haha wondering if @Fangs had a tin of sardines with a candle! You stopped at one bite of the cupcake and went on with your life - hurray for you - you truly ARE older and wiser
Bolt has responded magically well to the new diet! I bet you get another couple years out of that little guy
Happy birthday @FrankoBear! Love the cartoons - had to download the one of the bears.
Yesterday I tried out my new Vitamix food processor attachment - a birthday gift from my infant daughter.

Inspired by @FrankoBear’s ground venison and cheese, I used grassfed burger, grated cheese, a little liquid smoke, and salt. Wish I had pics of it raw. Albeit overcooked it was quite good. That food processor is a monster! Can’t wait to do dog food in it.

Lastnight, the 72 hour brisket came out of the sous vide (135°). Had to try it straight out of there.

The color of the meat is actually pink after all that time. Tender as heck.
Shopping today and brewery. Mailing a package and some cards. Nothing this evening!! Woohoo!

(Robin) #71

Is that your infant elf daughter?! Too cute!

(J) #72

A little pre-run feed.

(Karen) #73

Oh my goodness @jh5899 did you run after eating that??? I cant do any workout after food so i’m always workng out fasted. Looked tasty though.

@Fangs so happy about Bolt, God is truly working in his little life at the moment!

@FrankoBear have a super lovely day tomorrow and enjoy the family gathering.

@JJFiddle food looks great especially the last pic of the meat.

No alarm set for today which was nice. 70 stair runs as soon as i was out of bed. -3° but as the sun was shining super duperly i was outside in body warmer coat blankets hat and fingerless gloves so i can turn the pages of my books lol. Only fingers that felt the chill and if i had knocked my hands on anything those fingers would have fallen off  mind you wrapprd rou d the mug of coffee and they were fine and it soon warmed a bit as the sun passed round my neighbours tree and beamed down on me.

Brunch was 2 chicken eggs scrambled.

Hair cut this afternoon then had to pick Raymond up from his physio appt at the hospital as he took a funny turn. He was picking up as i got him home.

Dinner was peri peri spiced chicken wings… spiced them myself. They were okay albeit maybe a bit too long in oven… skins were nice and crispy though. Followed them with some cheddar and deli sausage.

100 push ups completed.

A very frosty morning until that sun popped its smiley face around the tree!

(J) #74

About 30 minutes post eating. Wasn’t a race-run, just endurance.

(Linda ) #75

Happy belated birthday fangs…

Well I had a check in this morning with Dr Cywes and suprise suprise he wants me on 80 fat 20 protein which I had already switched over to although had been cutting back on fat… and to cut way back on portions which should hold me in ketosis to kill hunger for the next three months so I can remove all the gained weight and get back to goal weight. …I have to eat at least twice a day…and keep in my fatty coffee… so that’s my goal…

#76

I ate all I could, even had a break in the middle of my dinner… And had a bite later. 750 kcal.
And I used to have 1200-2000 kcal first meals on 2-3MAD… :flushed:
And I am perfectly capable do that (usually not the highest part but 1200-1500 at least) on carnivore quite often.
But very low-carbs and OMAD, that’s a tricky combo. Oh well, it’s interesting
Even if I have another meal later, it’s a bit crazy.

I had cheesy scrambled eggs (3 eggs, 10g lard, 5g cheese. I had that much grated cheese but it was tasty and cheesy enough), pork chuck roast (pitiful amount again and I barely could eat it with breaks!) and that’s about it? Well coffees with very little calories.
But I ate much yesterday, calorie and protein wise so maybe it will be fine. The average of the 2 days is pretty okay but my body usually doesn’t work like that.

It’s very new. Perfect satiation until 5pm, easy fasting until about 6… And then a tiiiiny meal. Hopefully tomorrow will be normal.

My waking time was normal today, yay. I still didn’t have a walk as I was so very cold and the weather gloomy… My body is wondering about getting sick. I won’t, I just have this morning almost-catched-a-cold state. I am in my worst form in the morning, be it about anything. I am most tired and moody (well just the part where I have no mood for anything and in general feel useless. no mood swings at all), have the least energy (can’t train, walking is possible but where I get the mood for it? unless it’s needed, I don’t do it. sunshine helps a lot), can’t eat (okay that’s nice as I don’t even need it), conscious brain isn’t functional… I can cook though. I start to become a person around noon, I had this all my life… I am at my best in the evening unless I had too little sunshine and I miss it. And then I chill and get tired after some time after midnight. When I had proper 8 hour work days at home, I had them between 4pm and midnight, just perfect except I lose my free evening hours then. When I had office work 9-5, I usually did nothing before noon (I arrived after 10 in average, still available for questions from other until noon) as my brain rebooted at noon… Only could do easy work I started the previous day… And if there was some serious work with a crazy deadline, I did the vast majority of the whole (pretty much) work after 5 when people left and there was PEACE. I was quick if I could focus. And I could stay until very late when needed. Well not too much, I liked to eat my home meal around 10pm at most…

But early evening is better for me  6pm is probably the latest time I should have my first meal. I am not sure it’s not too late… But if I eat earlier, I probably need to eat again. If I eat later, I probably need to eat again. Hence my OMAD try at 6pm and because I don’t like to eat when perfectly satiated.

Now I feel strange and not so well, it’s hunger-like but I feel kind of satiated too and my appetite is negative infinite…
Maybe I just drink some eggs soon.

But I want proper meals and then CHILL/doing something useful (or rather both), not this :frowning:

Experimenting is interesting though, I have so many ideas to try… But they require some bigger enthusiasm and ability towards eating. And we talk about ME. I always ate so much so easily… Almost always.
I feel so baffled like in the very beginning when carnivore triggered undereating. For days only but STILL. I never had that before. My OMAD week (started with much carbs, ended on keto. I couldn’t start it without much carbs) definitely went into that direction but it triggered stopping OMAD so I still got my food.

I definitely consider it a very good idea to start with a dinner so I do that. And then I hopefully figure out what else to do. I know a lot already, I just need some fine-tuning - and to figure out HOW can I eat properly.

And I have a lot of lard. What on Earth can I do with it? I make scrambled eggs now but I probably will get bored and it depletes my lard super slowly. Chicken liver is even slower, it’s 10g lard per 500g liver… I have been minimalizing my added fat intake since so long, my brain works according to it, I just don’t have recipes with that stuff…
Maybe I will have larded sponge cake muffins on my leaner pork days (I am not sure leaner pork is a good idea for OMAD but who knows? maybe the lack of calories allows me eating enough meat. and I can drink fat calories)…

Past 4 days data, post coffee, pre-breakfast blood tests. Final one is today.

Breakfast today was 3 chicken eggs scrambled in the juices from stewed venison, 3 rashers middle bacon, 60g Jarlsberg cheese. 2 black coffees 3 hours apart.

Active around the homestead. Following the calls of black cockatoos through the woodlands looking for dropped feathers. Bush walking through bushfire burnt forest. Went to the physical therapist to work on rehabilitation post-pandemic to get back to proper surfing. It’s gym work on Pilates reformer machines. I’m not a fan of gyms. But the surf is calling me.

The summer colours are here in the farmlands.

@Alecmcq is a carnivore runner as well.

Thanks for Bday wishes @Azi and @FrankoBear

@Azi sounds like a great plan ya got going chatting with Dr C
more power to ya!! let us know how you are doing thru it all!

@FrankoBear, the 9th. Happy Bday to you too!!! You know I feel far enough away from Xmas to not feel like bday is xmas. Hubby’s bday is Jan. 4. Yea I tried hard to do another present after xmas presents, it seemed worse kinda LOL My cousin’s bday is the 25th. She hated it. Says she gets robbed for sure but as an adult now she don’t care :sunny:

Let us know what ya get for your Bday? I got sunflower seeds for bird feeder and a poinsetta plant for xmas. Yea all I asked for

---------------wonderful posts on the board to read. Great thread happening for us carnivores!!

pork loin and whatever, might defrost chicken for all. family gets chicken something and I get chicken to eat up  ugh, thinking food for family gets old LOL

doggie holding well. huh? new vet probably for all new testing probably. Day by day but right now the death sentence of that monday is over and so far so good? I don’t know on it all!

ZC tight thru this holiday month everyone!! Plan up some fancy great meat for the holiday and everyone enjoy.

I saw that a store kinda further drive from my area is having ribeye standing roasts at $5.79/lb. Might have to make that drive! We shall see, my luck I will somehow miss the sale, have to check the website and see what I can maybe do on this sale.

ZC ON!

oh edited to show pic of my chuck roast I forgot about in oven :joy_cat:
image000000%20(45)
It is very dark, almost a ‘burnt’ taste but I am kinda ok on going into burnt taste so I ate 1/2 of this leftover yesterday and will probably eat it up today maybe for second meal instead of chicken or just leave it for tomorrow. Either way it will get eaten LOL

(Edith) #80

Just be careful. If the store is too much further, the cost of gas spent getting there and back may not make the cost of the meat that much cheaper than staying close to home.
